The sun comes up, but I don’t rise,
My body moves, my soul just lies.
A hollow shell, a vacant stare,
I left myself somewhere back there,
Yet no one saw me say goodbye.


The mirror holds a stranger’s grin,
An echo wrapped in paper skin.
I shake his hand, but feel no touch,
A fading echo, not much else,
A husk still waiting to give in.


Laughter rolls like distant rain,
Soft and warm, yet lost to me.
I hold the joke but not the joy,
Just play my part, a hollow toy,
A marionette in life's cruel dream.


Graves are for the ones who rest,
But I still walk, still play the guest.
A living corpse, no death to find,
The rot runs deep inside my mind,
And yet they call this being alive.


I shake the hands, I play the role,
The mask is tight, but no one knows.
Each word, rehearsed, a hollow ring,
An empty song I’m forced to sing,
Already gone, yet still on show.


The clock keeps time, but not for me,
I lost my place, I lost the key.
I move through life like smoke through stone,
A whisper left, a name unknown,
A soul unclaimed by death or dream.


They talk to me like I am here,
Like something lingers in this frame.
But I am dust before the wind,
A name that echoes, growing thin,
A candle burned down past the wick.


Once I thought that death would wait,
A final line, a closing gate.
But I am gone, though lungs still fill,
A dead thing walking, cold and still,
And yet the world won’t let me fade.


I held my funeral years ago,
No one came, and none should know.
The eulogy was left unsaid,
The body rose and left the bed,
And walked the world, already dead.

As we continue our mission of dancefloor exploration into the colder days ahead, we reanimate one of our favorite revenants from the bottomless underworld to warm us back up.

An immortal product of the robust Detroit scene, Joel Dunn now serves as a commander in our growing Satellite Trax fleet. Last year's "Michigan & Rosa EP" [STRX008] under his dubstep-centric alias OktoRed cracked our foundation with blistering bass weight. This time, he returns to our sublabel by way of his Marshall Applewhite project, cunningly named after the deranged leader of Heaven's Gate.

Known for cultivating bass workouts that gravitate towards modern electro, Marshall Applewhite is back with a fresh tracklist of cult classics. "We Dress For Dinner EP" is a hate letter to the eerie autumn breeze felt after supper, capturing the essence of our shapeshifter's many stylistic forms. For his slower paced, hypnosis-inducing tracks, he has coined the term "sludge" as a niche descriptor and potential subgenre to build upon. This can be heard in the opener "Acid Beans," a midtempo meltdown and theme song of experiencing poison damage. The EP looks into the future with "Ravioli Raid," stepping on the tempo throttle with its clear ghettotech influence and ode to pasta. "Old Risotto Lung Charlie" keeps the octane flowing through cleverly syncopated yet unforgiving bassline intended to devour dimly lit dancefloors. The acidic bassline in "Meat Droplets" is an insignia of Detroit dwellers, assembled around an inimitable groove reminiscent of early techno mornings. "Sunday Dishes" is a suitable pick-me-up for weekend warriors in the form of smooth, tasteful jungle with no aftertaste.

As a newfound tradition and homage to last year's "Vengabus" on STRX008, Marshall Applewhite closes with another Bandcamp-exclusive track. "Mr. Vain Cover" flips Culture Beat's 90s anthem into a DJ tool drenched in his "sludge" aesthetic. What he hilariously described as "MTV techno" is willfully drained into a garbage disposal for our morbid curiosity.

There are few entities that better represent our personal slice of the Motor City's vibrant underground than Marshall Applewhite. His latest offering is yet another testament to the urban grit and grueling bass that are integral components of our sonic DNA.
