Recording from the insane Kompakt label night a little more than a month before the closing of Trouw. The crowd was insane - you have to be in order to brave the queue for up to 3 hours - the atmosphere electric. Michael Mayer and Maceo Plex played awesome sets. We finished the night with a back to back to back session until 9:30 in the morning. I hope to track down the recordings for the other sets as well...

Patrice Baumel Live (Kompakt Night At Trouw, 22 Nov 2014)

Matthew Benyayer, Thomas Edwards and Carlo Anderson together make up the London based trio Dark Sky. Having met at college, Dark Sky formed in 2009 and evolved from a band dealing with twisted dubstep and pop hybrids to a trio pushing electronica and garage-techno to a pleasing new level. After five years touring around the globe, producing EPs for labels like Black Acre, Mister Saturday Night Records or 50Weapons and remixing artists like The xx and Maya Jane Coles, Dark Sky finally released their long awaited debut album on Modeselektor's label Monkeytown Records in August 2014. It is called Imagin and features percussion driven, soul laced tracks that move deeply. We asked the Londoners to produce a Carhartt WIP Radio show that only features Dark Sky material. The result is a propelling mix that underpins their skills as producers who can do it all: Grime reductionism, Garage rhythms, moody electronic melodies, broken 4/4 steppers, murky trip hop, Afro-centric cosmic techno, future funk, modern soul ballads and electronic emo pop for the lonely hearts.

Solid Steel (5th December) It's a huge show this week as we welcome back Diplo to Solid Steel. 10 years ago Diplo released his album Florida on Big Dada and played his first UK gig in an intimate venue at the monthly Solid Steel club night (and twice more that year). He plays somewhat larger venues now, including a residency in Las Vegas and Madison Square Garden on NYE. "For my cover version I chose this track by Yeasayer. The original is a  beautifully sad yet upbeat breakup song, strident and bright with synth lines cascading around a heartfelt vocal. I wanted to make it sound far more broken and fragile, so I re-played it on the piano, pitched it down, then mangled it quite heavily so it came out sort of wobbly and knackered sounding. Moleskin Conclusion

Jay asked me to hold this for him and Jeezy. Ross did something with it. Chris Brown wanted it badly but couldn't find the right vocal flow for it once we got in studio. Canei wanted to pass it to Cole, but it was held up by someone else who actually cut me a check for it. Then it ended up just sitting, and I was weird about playing it for folks. Everyone who heard it thought it was amazing but couldn't come up with a song to it lol. Understandable though. There's a LOT going on. S/o to Canei on the godly piano riffs that are different each time throughout the entire track. Man.. 

 I may do this more often. If you're going to attempt to rap on it, be respectful and rap good.
