Dedicated to the early Christians possibly worshiping in the catacombs. Actually, the idea that the catacombs were used as hiding places is disputed. But I've used it anyway. And "damnatio ad bestias" did certainly happen.

Looking back, I have to say that my maternal grandmother was my favorite storyteller. She didn’t tell fairy tales though; instead, she shared very vivid family stories passed down from her grandmother. Listening to her stories was like traveling around the world with a large cast of characters…ministers, coal miners, teachers, royalty, scoundrels and even a magician. While she’s been gone for over 20 years now, the stories she left behind live on.  Such is the magic of storytellers.

I started making this piece with the intention of it being a set of songs that could stand on their own as well as being an open collaboration, but then it took on a life of its own, and things just got out of hand from there, lol! 

But I still managed to control myself and didn’t add too many samples though, haha! 

I was listening to 1985 and 1986 hip hop singles when making this so….

You can download this for free as well as some of the unmixed stems on Bandcamp. The lyrics can also be found on Bandcamp since SC didn’t provide enough space in the song info. I reached my description limit!

Original title: I like to sample old drums

Open collaborations have always triggered me and they have to be cooked, when they are still hot. So when I listened to the new track of Marquis I knew immediately what I wanted to do and created a remix in a few hours. My approach is, that I have replaced the warm and organic sounding drum-loops with cold and sterile sounding synth-sounds. Though I am far from being a Hip hop-producer I tried to apply a polished and modern attitude. I painstakingly recreated the groove of the original loops, shifting sounds exactly to the same place. All sounds are made with the Zebra-synth and mixed in Logic. I used two raps and tried to create a smooth transition between them.
