Jagjaguwar is excited to announce the release of the soundtrack to Panos Cosmatos'  Beyond The Black Rainbow on 9/02. This album will be available in the United States and digitally world-wide on Jagjaguwar and physically in Europe on Death Waltz Records. This supposed "lost film" from the 1980s is inspired by obscure sci-fi movies and classic dystopian fiction - watch the trailer here. Created by Sinoia Caves, the ongoing project of Jeremy Schmidt - a disciple of the long-form cosmic synthesizer soundscape, and member of Canadian psych-and-prog pioneers Black Mountain - the soundtrack draws on inspiration from Tangerine Dream, Wendy Carlos and John Carpenter. Schmidt artfully navigates the various sonic sensibilities of his predecessors, incoporating touchstones such as mellotron choirs, glacial analogue synthesizer pads and arpeggiators. The result is ominously beauitful, otherworldly and terrifying.
 
This mesmerizing effect is evident in "Forever Dilating Eye" the first track off of Beyond The Black Rainbow, which premiered this morning via The A.V. Club.

Decay Force Hong Kong

Whilst recently digitising my tape archive I came across this one from Geff/John Balance of Coil, with whom I frequently exchanged music. It features this one solitary track which I believe he gave me to play out at my Electronic Lounge club that I ran at the Institute of Contemporary Arts London in 1994.

The other side features remixes of the band Stabbing Westward tune 'Lies' but don't believe this has anything to do with Coil. I just think Geff was recycling a tape that was lying around in the studio. This seems to be an alternative mix of ELpH - Static Electrician, longer than the released version.

I share it with you out of respect to the memory of great people no longer with us, and ask that you don't try to profit by making money out of this. Gift culture can make others happy :-)

30 years ago - while still in my punk band - I started experimenting with a cheap tape machine. Mainly influenced by groups like Dome,MB,Whitehouse, Nurse With Wound and encouraged by my friendship with B.Lustmord, I made these recordings. Taking the name 'Screw Machine' from the Acme Gridley screw machines I worked on, I put together home made cassette tapes of NOISE. These are 'organic' recordings. No synthesizers were used. Consisting mainly of guitar and bass feedback with little,or no effects pedals. Any other details are sketchy at best.
While some of these tapes were for sale at Port Huron's Full Moon Records,I met Lon C Diehl. 
Shorty after,we formed 'S/M Operations' and 'Hunting Lodge'.
