Inspired by 2PAC and commissioned by his estate by 'Art' while Afeni was still alive, "Keep Ya Head Up Dub" is a collaboration between Kevan Anthony Cameron; also known as Scruffmouth (lyrics, cover dub poetry, publisher) Devon "Mr. Metro" Martin (producer), Richard "SugarGroove" Brown and Thelonius Dule Mthombeni (videographer). Contains a sample of the Five Stairsteps 1970 song, "Ooh Child", that I do not own the copyright for. Inspired and Interpolated (I and I) by the original cut.

June 21st to 23rd June is the 11th Charles Town Jamaica Maroon Festival and Conference. SEUK will be speaking with guests the 3 Maroons Towns; Charles Town; Accompong Town and Moore Town.

Marcia is the Acting Colonal of the Charles Town Maroons and much more. She is an herbalist extraordinaire, making wines, teas, medicines and rubs from native herbs, plants and fruits, knowledge she acquired from her parents. She believes that every plant has its own use and is to be analyzed individually. She says that each plant and herb must be used correctly in order to achieve maximum benefit.

At the Charles Town Maroon Council "Kim" wears many hats. She is the head tour guide and administrator for the Charles Town Maroon's tours and attractions. She is also the lead dancer in the famous Charles Town Maroons drummers and Dancers.

Is the president of the Accompong Town Youth Cultural Group. Its mandate is to work around the clock to preserve the cultural history and identity of the historic Maroon village. The group has been instrumental in rallying the young men and women of the community to be more grounded with Jamaica's rich Maroon culture, particularly the events that played out in Accompong, which played a pivotal role in the Maroon's fight for freedom.

Demoney see’s that having that inner standing of Maroon history, the challenges, sacrifice, triumphs against odds, overstanding of your environment, healing plants, the power of ancestral songs builds confidence, pride and a ‘can do attitude’ which was second nature to their ancestors a strength of spirit that live on in the youth of Accompong.

Founder of the Kromanti Experience, works with the Maroon youth in Moore Town also takes tourist on inspiring journeys into the unknown reality of maroon life and history. Kromanti Experience is a look into the history of the Maroon people that is oftentimes shrouded in mystery and delusion and the tour clarifies many misconceptions. It also opens a gateway for one to derive from the tour a unique spiritual experience that drives meaning to one’s own journey in life.

Roots Dub Tradition

One Man Dub

Kevan Anthony Cameron graduated from Simon Fraser University in 2003 (BGS '03, CLA '03) after playing four years on the Men's Varsity Soccer team from 1997 through 2000 where he earned All-American Honours and was given the prestigious Honourary Captain's Award. 

Cameron is an alumni of the Canadian Men's National Team as well as Vancouver Whitecaps Football Club.

After a pro soccer career in North America, Kevan Anthony Cameron began to spit his lyrics; SCRUFFMOUTH is the pen, stage, and business name for the spoken dub poetician in literature, orature, media and performance.

Kevan Cameron is a full member of UBCP/ACTRA and has appeared in new media, commercials, print, and film/tv as a spoken word poet, soccer player, or just as himself.  In 2011, Kevan "Scruffmouth" Cameron was awarded a Canada Council for the Arts Spoken Word Program Grant for a a spoken dub poetry project of lyrical audiovisual liner notes.

In 2014, Kevan Cameron was awarded a Fulbright scholarship as an Adult Educator for the Youth Ambassadors Program. One of the community service projects Cameron committed to the his work as a cultural diplomat and mentor was HOGAN'S ALLEY POETRY FESTIVAL which was funded by Canada Council for the Arts from 2011 through 2014 in the Lower Mainland, Coast Salish Territories in the historic East End of the traditional lands of the People of the Inlet to celebrate the historic achievement and cultural spaces of Afrodescendants amidst urban renewal schemes of the 20th century.

Thank-you to Canada Council for the Arts for providing BLACK DOT ROOTS AND CULTURE COLLECTIVE with $30,500 over four years to produce this influential and creatively excellent literary arts celebration that recognizes the strength of diverse cultural programming that acknowledges the past to bring forth new futures. In 2015, Black Dot Roots and Culture Collective independently funded Hogan's Alley Poetry Festival with the theme FUTURE.
