My office is looking to purchase a computer dedicated for rendering in house using Rhino and Vray in windows. To avoid raising thre how long is a piece of string question, we would like a solid machine, somewhere in the middle ground.


I've just updated my setup (Threadripper 3990x + RTX 3090) from windows 10 to windows 11. I'm getting around 50% worse performance in rendering, even after the supposed AMD and windows fix for the Latency problems last week (amd chipset 506, windows update KB5006746).


Modelling & viewport performance in 3dsmax, and all other general software runs really well in w11, no complaints, and I really like the new look and feel of the new OS, but as max+vray is my main daily software I don't want to settle for this performance downgrade.


Imagine having a job where placing spotlights and other directional lights is something you do alot - and then imagine you are designing a tradeshow stand with a rig and 50 spotligts attached to that rig. The spotlights are imported as blocks - which is good - but now you have to manually insert 50 vray ies spotligts. This is time consuming and the solution seems so simple yet it is not possible.

How about exporting the tradeshow lighting fixtures geometry along with the associated lights as a .vrayscene and then embedding the ,vrayscene into a block. I have tested the .vrayscene ability to save lighting information and it should work.


Its not a matter of not having reflections, it's more like not seeing them. if I switch from vray sky to vray hdri is see them perfectly. So its not the material. I think its because the vray sky is to white or something.





Yeah, figured as much, I went for the same approach and looked up some tutorials for render passes; pretty usefull hehe. But when I use a dome with hdri texture, can I put it so that It wouldn't bright up my room? Since i'm using a daylight system. and some vray light planes for certain walls to give some more natural light bounces.


Sorry if I confused you. The only problem I had was that my reflections didn't show enough on my windows because I was using the vray sky. Then I used a hdri in my environment slot to have some more colour behind my glass. This worked perfectly but then I had clouds in my glass which I didn't want. Which I solved using a render pass


My scene is a room which is lit by 2 rect lights and VRay Sun & Sky outside and one rect & sphere lights inside.
If I hide my windows, I have very little noise on the floor, but as soon as I show my windows with the glass material the light on the floor gets noisy as hell.


When using vray (adv not vray rt) in 3ds max 2016 to render 2560x1440 image (still in prepass 3) in about 20 minutes th PC just restart itself with no sign of warning or anyhing
I tried using 1920x1080 pixels or 3840x2160 pixels still the same, the CPU temp when rendering is about 60 Celcius
