Alcyoneus - New Largest Radio Galaxy

On December 25th 2021, NASA launched their most advanced and expensive telescope ever- the James Webb Telescope, which has been in development for over 30 years. From distant stars and planets, to the dawn of time itself, this telescope will transform our view of the universe, as we usher in a new age of astronomy- the age of Webb.

The James Webb Space Telescope

In 1998, two teams of scientists measured the universe's rate of expansion, expecting to find the gravity of the Cosmic Web bringing the universe into a collapse. But instead, they found that the universe's expansion appears to be accelerating- having expanded more in the latter half of its life.
Both teams agreed upon the existence of a new type of energy field, known as Dark Energy, to drive this acceleration, and in doing so, they revived one of Einstein's long-rebuked ideas- the Cosmological Constant.

On the darkest of nights, free from the glow of the moon and the haze of light pollution, a stunning, striking formation can be seen imprinted upon the sky. That imprint is our galaxy- the Milky Way. Our galaxy is a giant, which extends for hundreds of thousands of light years. But by measuring the motions and velocities of the stars in our neighbourhood, both their past and future trajectories can be extrapolated- revealing the history of the Milky Way.
