The Return (sketch)

A collection of songs played mainly on an open C tuned resonator guitar & an open A tuned 12-string acoustic guitar. 
Melodies coming from guitar improvisations, heard in dreams, misheard in reality, all of which continued to invade my thoughts, a driving force for inspiration to record during my time living in Paris. These songs did indeed haunt me most thickly.

Coming in mid September is an absolutely lovely, pastorally infused, first album from Enofa (Ross Baker), entitled, “Arboretum”. Ross had released a collaborative album with us a few years back under the name, Middlemarch. His partner on that “Wolf Hall” release, Dimitris Avramidis, also contributes to this new effort as well.

For Ross, nature, and the inspiration derived from walking among the trees in the park and nature preserve near his home, plays a large part in the overall tone of this one long beautiful track. Like the Arboreta, which are regularly crafted to contain a range of contrasting shapes and colours, which gives them a very unique look and atmosphere,  this wondrous soundscape of sorts, incorporating field recordings, moody guitars and synth, and electronic treatments perfectly reflects the calming and mysterious feel of the long and languid  glorious English days of the moment. Wind chimes…the crackle of leaves underfoot….the light, swirling wind in the treetops…the sun breaking through the clouds…put this album on and you will find yourself strolling there as well!

TRS078 will come in two very limited, physical versions. The first, deluxe handmade version comes in an edition of just 50 copies. Each of these comes in the form of a collaged, stamped and hand worked vintage art deco, tri-fold photo folder, w/original photograph. Within each are collaged, vintage arboreal prints, dried leaves, and other arboreal ephemera. Each folder is extensively hand artified, and comes strung with a stamped tag made from an antique British cigarette card. Each comes with an attached, stamped black envelope containing a factory pressed CD, held on with an obi strip.

There is also a hand made standard version of Arboretum in an edition of 50 copies. These come in hand worked and altered, black digipaks, also with factory pressed discs.

Robert Farrugia - Relentless

Born and raised in Damascus, Maya is a virtuoso of the qanun, the Arabic zither. “When I was approached to take part in Walking Home,” she says, “the first thing that came to my mind was walking in nature, and the different lines of thought and feelings that stream through me. 

"Because of that, there are different voices in this piece, all of which the qanun performs. I know a lot of people are going through a lot of grief at the moment, and I wanted this music to give them a whisper of hope”. 

Walking Home is a series of sound journeys specially created during lockdown to be listened to on headphones whilst walking, for BBC Arts and Arts Council England’s Culture in Quarantine programme. Composed by Maya Youssef Mixed and mastered by Calum Malcolm
