It's kind of fitting that the refrain reminds me of Winter levels, since Tundra is just a Cold desert. The chord stabs and mallet work together to bring to mind a large, open area with lots of dunes and brittle stone formations dotted around, and in particular the constant, effervescent hi-hat pattern invokes the image of sand being blown off the top by the wind.

Man... this song sounds exactly like something from a 90s video game showcase event, especially with the N64.

Sonic lands in a huge desert plain, The wind rushing through his spines, and the air waving about. Cacti and strange fruits had been placed here and there, and puddles of clean water were sparse. Sonic had been used to warm places, but this was a-whole-other story. The air here was so calorious that the ground seemed to light up as if it were glowing, and the plants did the same. The shapes of the rocks and mountains had been the perfect size and width for Sonic to show off his trademark speed. As Sonic runs farther he sees Robotnik is trying to infiltrate a giant Pyramid like palace at the end of the desert. What could that guy be looking for in there?
