In recent years, there has been much discussion of the influence of classical Arabic science on the Western scientific tradition. Yet these achievements have been variously ignored, overlooked or occasionally overstressed. This lecture discusses the impact that scholars from the Islamic world have made in the fields of medicine, astronomy, optics, geography, mechanics and many other disciplines. What role did the Arabic world have in the history of science? And how did Baghdad, Cairo and Islamic Spain preserve and expand the scientific tradition?

The influence of Islam on science (7 Feb 2013)

Autumns is Christian from Derry, Ireland, a noisy pop project.

Disenchanted with the lack of local enthusiasm for his musical influences (except for from the two people working in his local record shop) he decided to make music, recording everything with one mic and a laptop, writing and playing every aspect and calling the resulting sound the ''Bedroom wall of sound'' (a joke that stuck).

Autumns' live setup features two friends - one on a second guitar and another on drums, to create a wall of feedback, warm reverb, trebled guitars, dark vocals and trashy drums.

Christian will be releasing a cassette single (estimated release date: April) on indie label Soft Power records and plans to play a range of gigs in 2013 everywhere and anywhere!
