'Remember Yesterday' is a pensive, at times almost elegiac selection of home-listening beauties which have been carefully put together and mixed (with vinyl only) by a dab-hand selector who I've had the pleasure to know for quite some time. Ilan has become known more recently for his synth-driven 'Night City Life' compilations of forgotten and obscure gems, distributed via the Spacetalk label, but we first met on or around the dancefloor of his erstwhile Hypnotic Tango events in various London basements, which he ran alongside my close friend Olly Fas. He's quietly developed a reputation over the years as somebody that goes the extra mile to source weird and wonderful music of a generally upbeat nature, which is befitting of the weird and wonderful chap with a generally upbeat nature that Ilan undoubtedly is.

As with all of the forthcoming mixes in this series, please give it a chance and listen without prejudice. There's no tracklist this time around.

The second volume of Invisible Inc’s 10-year anniversary celebrations has landed, hot on the heels of the scorching first volume.

Where Volume 1 focussed on the dub-style, electronic and ambient side of the label’s output, the second volume leans towards the ‘psych’ side of the label.

As has been a consistent pattern with the label in its decade of existence is its ethos of releasing new and exclusive tracks as well as releasing on vinyl pre-existing tracks that only ever saw the light of day in the digital realm. This compilation is no different. Alongside exclusive new material from Anna vs June, E Ruscha V, Banda Magnética, Exotic Gardens, Kanot and a Coyote remix of Sordid Sound System we also have for the first time on vinyl two tracks by Hena and Futurum that went somewhat under the radar first time round and really deserved to be shared with the wider world.

Hena is Ukrainian producer Volodymyr Gnatenko. I first heard "Nuan" in a mix by Andrea Ida & immediately needed to know what it was. Pure peyote-powered desert music that went under the radar and needed to be heard by more!

"Is It Balearic?" label boss Coyote does the honours and remixes the title track from Sordid Sound System's "Gimme Fever" LP turning it into a hypnotic acid dub mantra.

Swedish duo Kanot are Anton Kolbe (Tross) and Jesper Jarold (Fontän) joining forces to make dreamrock for psychonauts.

Also from Sweden are Futurum who sent me a promo of "Prado" over two years ago. A regular feature in my warm-up DJ sets, it's well overdue it being pressed up on wax!

Exotic Gardens is the alias of Peaking Lights' Aaron Coyes through which he finds a space for acidic experimentation enhanced by live dubstyle mixer operations.

LA-resident Eddie Ruscha, a frequent visitor to the label under his cosmic Secret Circuit alias, appears for the first time under his experimental ambient E Ruscha V moniker.

Banda Magnética is the brainchild of Hugo Capablanca (Discos Capablanca) & Borja Caro (Metametal) offering a mindpuzzler of improvised musique concrète.

Athens-based Anna vs June returns to the fold and closes the proceedings with a song of love, relationships, vulnerability and patience drenched in dreamy electronics.

Tatjana is back on Trushmix. Another full on mix with deep underground sounds, house, techno and some UK sounds in various forms. 90´s in sound, but not the familiar styles that we so often hear in mixes theses days from that era. Tatjana digs deep, also has her own and unique touch and taste in records. And again she shifts seamlessly between different styles, and that makes this mix a real listening pleasure. Always exciting, never to know what track to expect next.

This is the second collaborative soundtrack from Shane and James created for Ears Have Ears, the previous being 'Her Golden Threads Burned for The Birth of Daylight'. The work was put together over a stay at Shane’s place in northern NSW and combines studio, home and field recordings to create it’s varied sound worlds. Like their previous soundtrack it combines the two’s complementary skills across composition, sound treatment and synthesis.

Just over a year ago I became aware of something bubbling under the surface in Latvia after hearing Belgian label Stroom’s first NSRD releases. My interest grew after my friend Michael Klausman included a Seque track on a mix he did to accompany a book of poetry he did for us. Then again when Stroom released another beguiling document of that scene, a compilation focussing on Ingus Bauskenieks, and Musiques Electroniques Actuelles released a compilation of works by Latvian industrial provocateurs USOCA. 

Over the last few months this interest has turned into a bit of an obsession, as it often does with me, and I’ve delved a little deeper in this compelling underground electronic music and art scene, mostly based in and around the Latvian capital of Riga in the 80s and 90s. I am by no means an expert on this, just a fascinated onlooker. 

On this show I play a selection of works, most of which were originally released and on 1/4” reel-to-reel tapes, and distributed by copying the reels for friends. The artists were influenced by the insurgent DIY spirit magnitizdat, the re-copying and self-distribution of recordings that were not sanctioned by the Soviet Union. At the time, the release and distribution of music was outlawed unless released on government run labels (such as Melodia). However people were allowed to own reel-to reel tape recorders, and by means of dubbing illicit music travelled from person to person.
