Perhaps unknown to many, this group of friends (father & son included) have spent the past two Summer’s travelling the wilderness of Europe in their bus - winding through the hillsides & mountain tops, beaming out their live band freak-outs for select village goers.

This 50 minute cassette of 100% OG material, hauled back from their recent trip to the mystical land of Panaceum (a hidden valley in Germany rumoured to house the elixir of life's ails) is naturally well soaked on a Krautrock tip - with psychedelic hymns & hypnotic percussion, detaching from the linear plane.

GMT25 2Morph - Panaceum (Snippets)

It all began eight years ago with a copy of R. Murray Schafer’s The Tuning of the World found in a box in a cabin, deep within the Pacific coast rain forest. This catalyst provoked Scott Gailey to draw inspiration from the sublime environment that surrounds his home on the West Coast of British Columbia. This exact landscape had a profound effect years earlier on a group of composers centred around Schafer and Simon Fraser University, including Hildegard Westerkamp and Barry Truax, who banded together as the World Soundscape Project (WSP). Where the WSP was primarily interested in field recording as sound ecology - documenting, preserving, and archiving a changing landscape - Gailey explores the musicality of field recordings through various synthetic approaches, a way to access the ambiguous emotional content latent in the natural world. There is a subjectivity to Gailey’s work, and in that sense it has more in common with the sensual musique concrète of Luc Ferrari, or even the Fluxus tape works of Henning Christiansen, than with the WSP. Despite having roots in this well of thought, Polysensuality is undeniably modern, finding kinship with contemporary works by Sugai Ken, Visible Cloaks, and Meitei, while also dipping a toe in the sound pool created by Haruomi Hosono and Hiroshi Yoshimura. Gailey has previously explored this palette in his duo You’re Me with Yu Su, but here there is more space, more silence, greater extremes, and in this way it is more personal, like a soliloquy rather than a conversation.

Scott Gailey - The Turtle By Night (Clymyrasynathia Mix)19SC

Echoes of time sees the return of XVARR, this time to Good Morning Tapes' vinyl imprint, with extended versions of two workings from GMT13 (Serpent Power). Using sounds from early (circa 1992) experiments with metal, Past Masters captures a feeling of youthful anger and perhaps purity (or naivety). Reference to past masters is used to highlight the need to juxtapose present iterations of Self with the vitality of previously discarded versions. Also appearing on Serpent Power (GMT13) in an edited form and composed in 2018, the title track Echoes of Time was created using the Buchla Music Easel. The intended mood is one of serenity and perhaps even hope, with a view to create the sonic means by which one may transcend the trappings of linear time.

These tracks are joined by two other workings: She Healed Him in Her Sleep (originally planned for CD release in 2009), was composed after an extended trip to India, which left a profound impression on XVARR’s later creative pursuits. It explores the restorative dimension of love and the mystical role of sleep. And finally, Terminal Manoeuvre layers an improvised wistful melody over an ambient drone, designed to instil a sense of nostalgia and longing for respite from this terrestrial bondage.

With artwork from Egypte Erotique, the release is limited to 250 copies.

GMV02 XVARR - Echoes of Time 12" (Snippets)

MATstudio is a new series focussing on the music being made by Jonny Nash and Diego Herrera (Suzanne Kraft) in their Amsterdam Studio.

MAT records always aim to encapsulate a particular sound palette or sonic “world”. Whilst the mini-album/EP format is often ideal for this, it is important for us to balance these more measured, conceptual works with the spirit of chaos and spontaneity which often inhabits our studio. MATstudio provides us with an outlet for this aspect of our work.

The format, a vinyl record with two long-form compositions, allows us to showcase the range of material produced as a result of Nash and Herrera’s improvisations, experiments and accidents. Many of the fragments are the results of filtering ideas through new production techniques and tools. Some feature friends and collaborators. MATstudio works are an ode to the infinite possibilities that result in keeping a curious mind and a desire to learn.

MAT-SS3 features two compositions, “Crushing Indifference” and “An Inn For Those Not Permitted” and it will be released on vinyl and digitally in late February 2020.

In the midst of bushfires ravaging the country on an unprecedented scale, Sydney’s Moonshoe have reached out to their coterie both at home and abroad for a benefit compilation. Tapping 21 tracks, the mood hear spans quiet optimism and incised rage, often providing a reflexive reflection of the local flora and fauna that have been decimated by the fires. 
Whether offering a sense of solace or a headspace for a brief respite, the music here feeds into the beautiful solidarity being displayed across Australia’s musical community and further ashore; aside from a number of names from Sydney and Melbourne, RAMZi, Nummer and Max Abysmal have all contributed tracks.
