Bristol born production duo 'Circle of Funk' team up with super singer songwriter 'Mike City' out of Philadelphia, to create 'Rain or Shine', a late night groove that runs deep with emotion.

'Circle of Funk' offer up 2 tasty treats here. The original mix gets that R&B vocal treatment from Mike City with powerful lyrics, combined with lush chords, a stand out bass-line and soaring top line synths.

The COF Dub takes it up a notch with more swinging beats, driving bass, and a catchy but minimal synth stab and vocal hook effect.

Lee Robinson and Paul Stephenson, aka Circle of Funk, have their roots firmly in Bristol, the music capital of the UK's South West. With early influences in hip-hop and house, Circle of Funk was founded in 2007. Over the years they've produced stunning works for their label 'Slapped Up Soul' and collaborated with the likes of Robert Owens, Mr V, Lifford Shillingford and Natasha Watts. 

Mike City is an American singer-songwriter and record producer. He is best known for producing the singles "I Wish" for Carl Thomas, "Heard It All Before" for Sunshine Anderson, "Full Moon" for Brandy and "One Woman Man" for Dave Hollister.

In a career spanning more than 25 years a DJ, A&R Director, remixer, club host and broadcaster, Regisford has worked with a huge variety of artists from Stevie Wonder to Steel Pulse and Blaze to Diana Ross, but here he teams up with prolific R&B producer Mike City, who wrote and performed 'Shining'. As a producer, City has worked with artists like Sunshine Anderson, Brandy, Carl Thomas and Dwele, and that shows in an understated R&B-style vocal as Mike City aka Mike Flowers (who's credited here as Mikey Dance) sings a panegyric to his partner spirit and personality. 

Sean McCabe's remix pumps up the raw drums to kick-start the track and soulful chords produce a mid-tempo deep house track that will mix in beautifully with those classics and noughties Strictly Rhythm tunes, while also appealing to soul and deep house fans.

Re-Vibrations: A Remix Collection

Made up of a deep and voluminous array of remixes, alternative versions and DJ-friendly dubs, 'Re-Vibrations' is Good Vibrations Music's most ambitious release to date. Originally released as a highly limited vinyl double-pack to celebrate Record Store Day 2019, 'Re-Vibrations' is now available in an expanded digital download package featuring additional, previously unheard mixes by Karizma (as Kaytronik), IG Culture, QB Smith and Sean McCabe. 

The newly extended package includes inspired new versions of some of the label's most talked-about and sought-after tracks. Karizma leads the way with a tough but soulful Kaytronik Dub of Sean McCabe feat the HanLei's 'Now Is The Time' that layers the latter's wonderful vocals over a thumping bed of redlined beats, soundsystem-rattling sub-bass and twinkling, music box style melodies. 

CoOp co-founder IG Culture dazzles with two sublime and spacey broken beat rubs of Sean McCabe and Mike City's effortlessly soulful 'I Know Someone', while fast-rising producer QB Smith - a regular Good Vibrations remixer - offers up a stunning re-write of David Bailey and HanLei's 'Running Me Wild' that re-casts the cut as a politically-charged chunk of seductive jazz-funk/drum and bass fusion. An alternative take on the same track is provided by Nick Moss AKA Groove Assassin, underpins the original's smooth and slick instrumentation with beefy new beats and a rumbling sub-bass motif that recalls the mid-'90s dancefloor dubs offered up Strictly Rhythm.

One of the most impressive reworks comes from 95 North member Richard Payton, whose revision of McCabe's collaboration with Mr V, 'It Can Be', is little less than a total re-make. Featuring fresh keys, bass and drums from the experienced American producer, Payton's peak-time ready revision sits somewhere between revivalist hip-house and the kind of bumpin' business with which 95 North made their name in the mid 1990s. The package also contains a deliciously bass-heavy deep hip-house revision of the same cut by Cardiff producer Justin Stride under his familiar Black Sonix pseudonym.

To complete the package, label boss Sean McCabe offers up a quartet of unreleased reworks in his inimitable style. Arguably the most notable is his deep, shuffling and effortlessly soulful remix of 'Rain Or Shine' by Circle of Funk featuring Mike City. McCabe also delivers two takes on his production for Dannis Winston, 'Rocket Love'. He first serves up a DJ-friendly edit of Louie Vega's in-demand 'Ole School Remix', before doffing a cap to '90s UK house stalwarts Black Science Orchestra on the chunky and funky Rocket Funk Dub. You'll also find McCabe's extra-percussive Beat and Bass Dub of Vega's now celebrated 'Rocket Love' remix.

Bristol-based producer Sean McCabe released his first tracks in 2003 and has since fine-tuned a trademark sound that is effortlessly soulful.

McCabe made his name in house, developing a long-running relationship with legendary US garage label King Street Sounds and remixing the likes of Dennis Ferrer, Evelyn Champagne King, Carolyn Harding, Blaze, and Roland Clark. Since then he’s amassed an impressive discography, delivering inspired productions for labels like Local Talk, Strictly Rhythm, Vega Records, Tribe, and Quantize – plus an original solo album for Z Records.

A quick listen to any of his productions or one of his superb DJ sets will confirm this attractive, emotion-rich aesthetic. While rooted in house, his sound regularly takes on flavours of disco, boogie, Afro, deeper grooves, proto-house, ‘90s garage-house dubs and much more besides.

As an artist, his 2014 debut album entitled ‘It’s Time’ on Z Records displays his musical range and versatile quality production skills. The album hit Number 1 on Traxsource in its first week and has received support from the likes of Solar Radio, Mi-Soul, Kiss FM, and Jazz FM.

As a DJ, he forged a reputation at the legendary Southport Weekender, where he performed regularly. Anyone who can impress the notoriously knowledgeable Southport Weekender crowd must be doing something right. Sean has also travelled the world, playing as far afield as Asia and South Africa, as well as regular appearances across Europe and the UK. Refreshingly, he seems to have no particular aspirations to play in gargantuan clubs, and admits to preferring gigs in small, intimate venues, where he can make a connection with the crowd.

As a producer, McCabe is constantly learning and evolving, taking his sound in different directions. He admits to a love of vintage synthesizers – picked up from listening to classic New York boogie and ‘80s soul. In 2016, Sean continued his musical journey by launching ‘Good Vibrations Music’ record label – a natural evolution of his renowned Good Vibrations events in Bristol.

With a successful album under his belt, his own record label and notable collaborations with the likes of Karizma, Turbojazz, and DJ Spen, his reputation for bringing quality soulful dance music to the masses continues to rise.
