Digging deep deep in the King St crates once again comes one of the very first songs that put this artist on the road to becoming one of the most well known and respected in House Music. DJ Roland Clark continues to be a force of soulful nature after having achieved a #1 Billboard Club hit back in the day with "Show Me" and one of the biggest underground hits, "Flowers" and "I Get Deep," whose vocal is STILL being played today in the guise of it's many bootlegs. From his soulfully sung pieces, grounding him as a versatile artist and putting him up there with some of the best R&B counterparts, to his thunderous spoken word, be they preachy or sassy, DJ Roland Clark has played ball with the best. Here we pay homage to him once again with "Until We Meet Again," originally remixed by legendary Matthias Heillbronn & Mike Delgado, aka Deep Zone when it was originally released back in '96, now sees revival remixes by UK soulful heavyweight Sean McCabe and a more ramped up remix by Italo-electronic outfit the Dollscombers. Good Vibrations Music founder Sean McCabe and Mood II Swing co-founder Lem Springsteen have struck up a strong studio partnership over the last couple of years. The collaboration has continued apace during the period of lockdown forced by the continuing global pandemic, with McCabe and Springsteen determined to conjure up something to raise spirits amongst followers of deep and soulful house.

“Connection”, the duo’s third collaborative single on Good Vibrations Music, is a celebration of staying connected whilst we’re forced to stay apart. It features a sensitive, soulful lead vocal from Springsteen – ably supported by Jamelle Jones on backing vocals – reciting his own thoughtful, positive lyrics. The message is simple: we may well be apart, but if we support each other, deeper relationships are still possible. The track that sits beneath is typically musically rich and colourful, with McCabe layering positive chord sequences, stirring strings and lilting synthesizer melodies atop a superb bassline and shuffling deep house drums.

As is now customary, McCabe has delivered a number of alternative versions and remixes to sit alongside the memorable original mix. These include a superb “Reprise” mix, which builds from a dreamy, soulful, beat-free start – allowing Springsteen’s vocal and McCabe’s chords a chance to shine – into a bumpin’ dancefloor treat.

Arguably the most notable alternative version is the “Hook-Up Dub”, where McCabe toughens up the beats, emphasizes the bass and unleashes a string of spacey synth solos. He also makes great use of delay-laden snippets of Springsteen’s vocal and some typically tactile chords.

Sean McCabe and Lem Springsteen - Connection (Sean's Hook-Up Dub)

Bristol-based producer Sean McCabe released his first tracks in 2003 and has since fine-tuned a trademark sound that is effortlessly soulful.

McCabe made his name in house, developing a long-running relationship with legendary US garage label King Street Sounds and remixing the likes of Dennis Ferrer, Evelyn Champagne King, Carolyn Harding, Blaze, and Roland Clark. Since then he’s amassed an impressive discography, delivering inspired productions for labels like Local Talk, Strictly Rhythm, Vega Records, Tribe, and Quantize – plus an original solo album for Z Records.

A quick listen to any of his productions or one of his superb DJ sets will confirm this attractive, emotion-rich aesthetic. While rooted in house, his sound regularly takes on flavours of disco, boogie, Afro, deeper grooves, proto-house, ‘90s garage-house dubs and much more besides.

As an artist, his 2014 debut album entitled ‘It’s Time’ on Z Records displays his musical range and versatile quality production skills. The album hit Number 1 on Traxsource in its first week and has received support from the likes of Solar Radio, Mi-Soul, Kiss FM, and Jazz FM.

As a DJ, he forged a reputation at the legendary Southport Weekender, where he performed regularly. Anyone who can impress the notoriously knowledgeable Southport Weekender crowd must be doing something right. Sean has also travelled the world, playing as far afield as Asia and South Africa, as well as regular appearances across Europe and the UK. Refreshingly, he seems to have no particular aspirations to play in gargantuan clubs, and admits to preferring gigs in small, intimate venues, where he can make a connection with the crowd.

As a producer, McCabe is constantly learning and evolving, taking his sound in different directions. He admits to a love of vintage synthesizers – picked up from listening to classic New York boogie and ‘80s soul. In 2016, Sean continued his musical journey by launching ‘Good Vibrations Music’ record label – a natural evolution of his renowned Good Vibrations events in Bristol.

With a successful album under his belt, his own record label and notable collaborations with the likes of Karizma, Turbojazz, and DJ Spen, his reputation for bringing quality soulful dance music to the masses continues to rise.
