The Black Windmill was originally conceived as a loose collective of LA-based musicians around singer/guitarist Axel Ray  (United Ghosts) and guitarist and multimedia artist Michael Deragon  bringing in collaborators from various LA bands. “Whoever shows up, plays” was the early philosophy, and with a revolving cast of members the project produced a heady mix of modern psychedelia and experimental soundscapes. 

Its first release, The Black Windmill EP and two subsequent singles Medicine and Take The Low Ride earned critical acclaim from blogs such as Buzzbands  (“ if there were such a thing as a psych/shoegazer hall of fame, L.A. ensemble The Black Windmill could be the house band”) and LA blog Grimy Goods, who made the project “Underground Band Of The Month”. Live shows were building to an increasing fanbase with support slots for Elephant Stone and a well-received LA residency.  

Ray and Deragon then took a hiatus to solidify a steady line-up and retool the sound into a more cohesive idea. With the addition of Emma Dennis (vocals, keys), David Franklin (bass) and Edward Cerecedes (drums), The Black Windmill is now ready for a fresh start. An album is in the planning for early ’19 and a new track, “Painted Skull (demo version) ”, is now up on Soundcloud to give a glimpse of things to come.
