Über das einjährige Bestehen des „Das haett es frueher nicht gegeben“-Podcasts haben wir ja bereits bei unserem Geburtstags-Special (s.u..) genug Worte verloren. Trotzdem müssen wir erwähnen, dass wir unser Jubiläum durchaus zum Anlass für unsere bisher prominenteste Ausgabe genommen haben.
 
Da wir tatsächlich noch die Bar 25 live mit bekommen haben und auch gerne im KaterHolzig feiern gehen, war uns http://soundcloud.com/mira_bar25 natürlich schon länger ein Begriff. Persönlich kennengelernt haben wir sie dann vor fast einem Jahr im Hamburger Übel & Gefährlich, wo sie zusammen mit unserem Freund http://soundcloud.com/shuffle – mit dem sie sehr häufig zusammen anzutreffen ist, unter anderem auch für zahlreiche Produktionen im Studio –  und http://soundcloud.com/britta-1 eine ganze Nacht lang das Turmzimmer auf den Kopf stellte. Bei dieser Party bahnte sich auch bereits die Zusage von Chris zu unserem Podcast an, auf Mira mussten wir jedoch etwas länger warten – aus gutem Grund.
Nicht nur dass sie fast nur auf Achse ist, weil sie national wie international (New York, Zürich, Helsinki, Amsterdam zum Beispiel) ständig gebucht wird, natürlich sind auch die Anfragen nach ihren Sets für Podcasts nicht gerade selten. Und so spricht es nur für sie, dass ihr absoluter Anspruch ist, die Sets eher spärlich zu streuen um eben jedes einzelne zu etwas ganz Besonderem zu machen. Sowohl was die Phase des Entstehens als auch den Zeitraum nach der Veröffentlichung angeht.

Wer Mira kennt, der weiß, dass sie sich glücklicherweise musikalisch nicht einordnen lässt; zu facettenreich und abwechslungsreich ist einfach ihr Sound. Sehr deutlich wurde uns dieser Kontrast am letzten Wochenende. Erst erlebten wir mit, wie sie in Hamburg auf der http://soundcloud.com/vollschoen Party die MS Stubnitz samt Publikum mit ihrem deepen und clubbig-treibenden Set zum Kochen brachte. Am Morgen danach dann konnten wir uns dann zu den unglaublich entspannenden und atmosphärisch dichten Klängen ihrer Podcast-Ausgabe fallen lassen, die sie uns quasi als Podcast-Geburtstagsgeschenk auf der besagten Party persönlich überreicht hatte.

Jetzt wird es Zeit für eben dieses Set, das keine beschreibenden Worte braucht, weil es einen vom ersten Ton an in seinen Bann zieht und für die gesamte Dauer in die Ferne entführt..!

Funky DL pays tribute to the legendary hip-hop sounds of J Dilla and Nujabes by recreating their famous songs on this fantastic album entitled... "February: A Rest In Beats Tribute To The Sounds of J Dilla & Nujabes".

Working tiresomely in the studio, DL with assistance from some of his musical pals crafted a full studio album paying homage to and celebrating the creative ideas originally brought to hip-hop by both the late James 'J Dilla' Yancey and Sebajun 'Nujabes' Yamada.

However, DL veers away from intense sampling, avoiding the same breaks as used by Dilla & Nujabes - to bring this fabulously musical, creative and jazzy tribute album.

DL felt it fitting for the album to be named February, being that (coincidently) these two hip-hop legends were both born on February 7th 1974, and sadly passed away in February 2006 and February 2010 respectively.

As Funky DL's intention was to capture the essence and soulful connection of what they 'both' brought to music lovers around the world, DL carefully hand- selected each track from the catalogues of these two legends and crafted as elegant of a representation as he could to showcase a further progression into the wealth of ideas from Dilla and Nujabes; but taking them that one step further and going beyond the usual restrictions of using only the contents of original samples.

This album is certain to bring back the nostalgia of the classics that each track was born from, as well as offering an entirely new audio perspective. The fans of both J Dilla and Nujabes will be pleasantly surprised.
