Premiere: Insomniast - Reakt

The Lossless Self EP is a two- track pack heavily influenced by dark and tribal sonic aesthetics. The output is a result of resampling organic drums, layered low ends, washed out highs, and a focus on telling simple yet concise rhythmic stories. 

The goal was to create juxtapositional compositions where there is a clear contrast between gritty/distorted elements and softer elements such as the synthesized pads in Generative Chase.

London-based producer Slacker lands on Markham Road Records with an exercise in both sample juggling and unrelenting pressure. Got Me Down's trio of waveforms spin the same vocal chop to produce some heavy, club-ready sounds. These three tracks lie on the pacier side of the BPM range, instructing a late-night application of their rhythms.

Leading out with the title track Got Me Down, Slacker pounds the subs harder than a Nona making pesto. Fitting somewhere between hard tech and dubstep, Got Me Down is a roller coaster of ups and downs (but mostly ups) that aims to leave dancers rather eager to stay on the floor.

The EP continues with a call and repeat called You Don’t Care. Developing over various percussive lines and bass swells, the track showcases Slacker’s expertise in sorting, pacing, and delivering THE drums. Just like Pooh Beatz, "He Like The HI Hat God Kinda."

The track also gets a spin courtesy of Europe’s other mega metropolis. Paris-based De Grandi morphs You Don’t Care into a step-friendly bass tech track in his latest remixing endeavor. In this remix, two heavy driving sections are laced together by a rather introverted bridge to allow dancers to regain their footing. As per the rest of the project, the remix maintains elements of the original vocal chop while introducing new percussive and rhythmical accoutrement.

PREMIERE: Slacker - Got Me Down [Markham Road Records]

The evolution of Caroline Lethô’s sound has been shaped by her family’s rich and diverse musical influence. Born in Portugal to Indian and African parents, a young Lethô would regularly attend her father’s jazz rehearsals where she would listen and absorb the warm woodwind tones of her father’s saxophone.

In 2015, Lethô released ‘Éter’ her breakout EP which was accompanied by a series of genre spanning mixtapes. Her formidable talent as DJ and producer was swiftly recognised in both her homebase of Lisbon, where she is now prominent figure in the city’s burgeoning underground scene, and across Europe where she has appeared at festivals and clubs like Tresor, Renate, Dekmantel Selectors, Atonal, Magentic Fields and Waking Life Festival.

Notably Caroline also co-organises ‘Mud Re Terra’ a new festival in rural Portugal, that grew from a collaboration with Spirala Ecological Village and her partner Sym Potion. It's a fusion of many cultures rooted in ecological awareness, experimental art and collective living.

FJAAK - Redemption (Helsmoortel Remix)

Brisbane collective Apparatus teams up with Wales producer Aloka for a two-track EP born from a few drizzly days in the city. Not exactly what you’d expect when swapping Wales for palm trees, but the rain kept the crew indoors and turned downtime into a writing session. The result is a snapshot of international collaboration in a city that’s been quietly exporting talent, while building its own stubbornly DIY identity at home.

Bluetongue ; A squelchy, deep, and slightly wonky piece of left-field techno with a sprinkling of latin drums. It moves at 150bpm but trades in weight and atmosphere rather than straight functionality, its warped textures drawing on the blue-tongue lizard living under the verandah of the house where Aloka was staying.
