Back for a third sonic voyage into the world of deep and sensual progressive house, GMJ & Matter welcome 10 artists, both seasoned regulars and label newcomers, as they showcase “Meanwhile Excursions, Vol. 3”.

Opening the 2023 edition, Sri Lankan and US duo, Dimuth K & Forerunners create a smooth rolling groove from where “Exit Reality” flows in melodic rivulets, eerie synth lines and ambient effects. Hitting its stride post-breakdown, hypnotic patterns provide dancefloor vibrancy. Continuing the coruscating rhythmic vibe, EMPHI and Zankee Gulati deliver trademark poise – the Swedish star generating an immaculately cadenced synth line and textured pads on the club-friendly “Azur”, and the Australian producer bearing fruit with shimmering and free-flowing lead lines and bouncing bass groove on “HereAfter”.

The next quartet ably demonstrate a collection of artists at the peak of their powers, Armenia’s Ruben Karapetyan builds bass dominance and seething sultry dancefloor prowess in the early movements of “Erechtheum” before a mirrored synth line blossoms post-breakdown. Seasoned Greek producer, Simos Tagias, needs little introduction to the Meanwhile faithful and “Reality” is replete with 24-carat production pedigree as silky smooth and Vangelis-esque passages swim across a chunky backdrop. From the Balearic Islands to Belarus, late-night gems sparkle in the moonlight where Not Demure generates spine-tingling emotion with “Vis Pace” through his gradually evolving melodies that reach a stunning zenith at the breakdown. Rising and falling within a sturdy beat, sub bass and light percussive surround, the result is a progressive masterclass. The crunchy bass sequence and emotive chord sequences of “Upside Limit” are a deft reminder of Michael A’s production talent. Developing with ease, and stamped with a watermark of sonic identity, the Michael A sound is easily identifiable.

Making their Horizons debut Ezequiel Anile and Nicolas Petracca have been creating waves in the progressive house fraternity for more than 5 years as EANP. “Forget” is no exception with its delicately arpeggiated pattern and flowing stripped-back mid-section that is then juxtaposed alongside hefty beat in the latter stages. The uplifting chord progressions and ethereal atmosphere of “Just a Toy” finds Anton Brazhenov creating a dense and swirling aural collage with his Meeting Molly moniker, holding firm against a mesmerising grooved backdrop. The free-flowing sequences and organic-sounding synth work of Tommi Oskari rounds Vol. 3 off with the aptly titled “Morning on Mercury”. Delicately pitched, twinkling keys and superbly programmed bassline create an innovative sound which picks up the pace in the final stages after a captivating trip across outer the solar system.

10 new tracks of shimmering and ethereal beauty highlight a progressive voyage of discovery within “Meanwhile Excursions, Vol. 3”.
