‘HI-NRG’ by Record Playerz, is a brand new track from 2003, written by the club Glasgow DJ duo Hifi Sean and HuussH. The track was among a series of productions that grew out of their long running weekly residency at the infamous Glasgow Art School. Their resident night was unlike any other - saturated in 70’s day-glo projections and obscure 80’s video loops with a soundtrack of super-diverse digital rhythms. HI-NRG is a homage to the euro synth pop and Italo disco they were deeply mining at the time;- shades of TAPPS, N.O.I.A. Giorgio Moroder and Bobby O, given a muscular production work out and a naggingly catchy melody line straight off a Hot Butter 45. The New York / Basel trans-atlantique legends In Flagranti re-frame the action to a 5am tenderloin basement sweat-joint, drenching staccato cowbells and cosmic chord riffs into a Cowley-fication of the original that could spring easily from any dancefloor of ’87, ’97 or ’07. Yam Who? Midnight Riot's high flying CEO, institutes a powerful piano house corporate take-over, insistent bass underpin swathes of tumbling synth washes and glistening melodies to propel this straight to main room acclaim.

Opolopo is Yoruban for "plenty", a word that exemplifies the diversity of this production wizard’s musical journey. Whether it's house, funk, future soul or broken beat, his compositions and productions are always uncompromising. Starting out with overdubbing on cassette decks with a Casio VL Tone toy keyboard in his early teens, to constructing soundscapes on synths, beat boxes and computers, Hungarian-born Peter Major a.k.a. Opolopo is now one of Scandinavia’s most extraordinary and sought-after producers. The mid-eighties spawned a controversial hit for soul diva Barbara Mason with “Another Man” - a surprising gender-bending tale that was way ahead of its time. The combination of these two mind-blowing talents results in a mix updates the track for the new millennium, where it can be enjoyed by a whole new generation of listeners as well as long-time fans of the iconic original.

“The Other Man” is a unique collaboration between up-and-coming young Finnish producer Janne Tavi – the flag-bearer of Ibadan’s next generation – and acclaimed Chicago house vocal legend Robert Owens. 

This EP is a superb rare gem that bridges global distances and combines a broad range of influences. The result is lush layers of sound, relentless energy, and intricate piano riffs and stabs. Owens’ poignant vocals seal the deal on this new house classic, taking it to sublime heights. The vocal dub kicks the heat up a notch with Owens’ seductive vocals and Tavi’s stunning keys and arrangement.

On the B-side, New York house legend Kerri Chandler makes a long-awaited return on Ibadan. First up is a spirited vocal version with a dynamic bassline. Chandler follows it up with an instrumental take, pared down to a tool and keeping the infectious groove going with deep and satisfying flavor.
