Jackson Ryland comes in focused and ecstatic with his first vinyl release under his technoid alias JR2K. Jackson is based in Washington DC as one-half of both Superabundance and Rush Plus. He’s recently released on Peach Discs and Pleasant Life, showcasing his knack for presenting energy as a delicacy. JR2K “Walking Backward” is another illustrious highlight in the savvy DC producer’s already-accomplished underground career. Supported by Kush Jones, Peach, Ciel, Clarisa Kimskii, Ryan Elliott, CMD, Davis Galvin, livwutang, Furtive, Golden Medusa, Lychee, Miley Serious, and JiaLing!

The A side opens up whooshy and hard with “ExoGeni Approach”. This illustrates perfectly what I love about Jackson’s style(s)...it sounds like the sickest mid-90s techno track, full of energy and movement while taking in the atmosphere with repose. After the rollercoaster intro, the acidic up-ticks, lush synth layering, and perfectly crunchy closed-hats sink your ass straight through the dance-floor to tumbling free-for-all in the green-screen collage of your daydreams. Wake up…A2 “Call Back” splashes you with a glass of refreshing water…you still got hours at the party, and you’re coming up on some healthE shit…time to get back to that business of dancing your soles and soul away to this driving monorail of euphoric acidic techno. Choo choo choose your own dance destiny, baby!

Don’t expect too much of a breather on the B-side though. “Sun Anthem” brings the solar modular beams on top of a delightfully delayed kick with swinging hats. Sounds like funky lasers, if light had mass and it could creep into your skull and massage the worries right out of your brain folds. The record ends with the titular track blooping, stomping, and clapping all over the dance floor. The end shows just how much of an auteur Jackson is, how he can put his special, funky je ne sais quoi on dance music that will shake you down hard and fast. All four tracks have something unique, but they all proudly say that dance music can be simultaneously defiant and sophisticated, banging and subtle. Cop this slab–don’t sleep!

Zvrra is a multi-genre music producer, DJ and video game developer based in the Chicago area. Zvrra has been producing music for 18 years and credits the prolific dance music soundtrack of 2003 video game Midnight Club 2 for her love of techno. Her music explores a multitude of genres and styles ranging from techno and house, to hip hop, to tribal and industrial, often blending styles and crafting intricate concept albums.

Zvrra has garnered much attention in the dance music scene for her 2020 release “Flow State,” a hypnotic 4-track techno EP that has been supported by acts such as Shifted, DJ GIRL, Ron AD and more. Flow State was featured in Bandcamp's Best Electronic Music January 2021 round-up, acclaimed by Joe Muggs as “bass-heavy, crackling with textural detail, sensually enveloping.”

Squidbrain lands on W133, spicing up your summer break with some breaky tunes! The Berlin via Philly artist presents 4 originals on his digital EP entitled "Time Theft".

Kicking off the EP is "Zweimal Vierundsiebzig", a bouncy, slightly spooky roller that turns into a ravy weapon. Fun fact: The track got its name from Squidbrain's usual; 2 orders of number 74 at a Vietnamese takeaway restaurant.

Next, the EP's title track "Time Theft" comes in, a grimy track with nasty vocal samples, thick bass and swirling drones.

The third track, "Dram", is a tension-building, shifting and angular bass tune that plays with loads of crazy sounds twirling around your head.

Last but not least, we have "Levo", which starts off with distorted guitar-like sounds and dissonant mystical melodies. As the track develops, it gets heavier and builds energy before bursting open with striking melodies and chopped-up vocals.

The artwork photography is by Philipp Roth, and the EP is released on all digital platforms on 9th August 2024.

The warmth of Roland's analog synthesizers contrasts with the cold absurdity of modern existence — like Kafka's characters trapped in endless bureaucratic corridors, sounds get stuck between the walls of a tiny room.
The album is a diary of sleepless nights where the boundaries of reality blur, a human transforms into sound, and sound becomes a document of internal trial. Recorded on obsolete equipment in an impossible space, it becomes a testament to how creativity is born not despite limitations, but because of them.
