Jason Kendig hails from San Fransisco and is a part of Honey Soundsystem based out of San Fransisco, a collective which bring in artists from all over the world. Jason has recently returned from their winter tour with stops at Output, New York; The Studio, Pennsylvania; Flash, Washington DC; The Bijou Theater & Sex Club, Chicago; Whiskey Disco, Detroit; Beatbox; San Fransisco. 

I met Jason while picking him up at the airport for a Smartbar gig. Meeting him at the carousel for his bag, the airline had insisted that he gate check his bag from his Detroit flight. We waited and nothing. As a vinyl DJ this is something that can be the absolutely scariest thing ever. You build your collection your entire life and it's priceless. Each vinyl DJ has records in his bag that not only are hard to find anymore but consist of memories. So we went to the airline to see what's going on. And I'm sharing with you this story because I believe this demonstrates Jason's character. Even though this may have been horrifying before a gig, he kept his cool, he was respectful with the airline representative, and he moved forward when they told him they had no idea where his bag was. We left the airport and although you could tell that this incident had an impact on him, he was still nice. Luckily he had his USB drive and a few other records so that night when it was time for his appearance he was able to put everything aside and be a true professional. He delivered a fun set for the people, everyone danced, and had a good time. Three days later, with a lot of fingers crossed and a lot of positive energy from his friends and fans, his bag was found :)

Soma welcome Techno behemoth Monoloc for his label debut with two dark, brooding Techno tracks in his inimitable style with the ‘Gipson EP’. Monoloc was born in 1980 in Frankfurt am Main. He first got in touch with the booming electronic music scene of this Techno metropolis at the age of 16 and soon bought his first set of records. Since then, his life has revolved around his ultimate goal; manifestation of his musical vision in the form of dj sets as well as his very own productions.

Title track Gipson kicks off with deep, pumping subs and kicks with a slowing evolving atmosphere creating great tension through the body of the track. Monoloc subtly pulls back the throttle only to launch back it with bold, crashing percussion. Most definitely one for the more moody dance floor.

On the flip, Cupel starts off a little lighter but defiantly delivers a punch. Muted kicks and atmosphere provide the backdrop while delayed synths trip out over the top. Monoloc picks up the pace ever so slightly as skipping hi hats given the track more urgency before ethereal pads glisten through the heart.

Pegassi is the moniker of 22-year-old deejay & producer Sam Huybrecht , hailing from Antwerp. As a 16 year old bedroom producer he got picked up by Giocatori, the deejays and producers behind Dutch wonderboy Lil Kleine . Together they worked on pounding remixes for the headstrong rapper. In the meantime Pegassi didn’t just continue to work on his futuristic house style, he also made big bootleg remixes that broke the internet. What followed: 800.000 plays on Youtube, 20 features on different channels and a stunning 1 million plays on Soundcloud . So far so good, until a couple of days later his Soundcloud account was taken offline, 10.000 followers who lost their big hero.

But! He was just warming up his wrists. A fresh profile and a clear mind brought Pegassi back on track. From just remixing in 2015, to remixing ànd producing his own music in 2016. Shortly after this, he shook-up the internet for a second time, when releasing his first track on the Soundcloud platform Binary. Together they launched “ Mystery ”, the song hit over 150.000 plays in no time. To take his career to the next step, he signed with artist & bookings agency Kurious. Resulting in gigs at Studay, The Day Before Tomorrow, Kingsday, LaRocca, The Villa and Ikon. 

2017 started with a bang, Belgian label NEWS signs the young producer and he delivers his very first single! Pegassi collaborates with Billie – a female singer from Ghent, known from “Give Me The Knife” and her collab with Netsky “We Can Only Live Today” – and records the track “ Truth and Lies ”. The gentle soft voice takes you along on a dreamy trip, until Pegassi’s climax drops. A drop that comes as hard as Trump in a Russian hotel room! Be warned, this one is sticky!
