Robin Saville has been "exactly half" of electronic luminaries Isan for over fifteen years.  Despite playing live around the world and having a contented home with Berlin's Morr Music, Robin very occasionally feels the need to express himself outside of Isan.  His solo work features a wider range of instrumentation and a charmingly bucolic, homespun sound, as well as evocative field recordings made on trips around the UK.  He lives in a house with one human and one cat by the coast in Suffolk, England.

Robin Saville has been plying his electronic wares as one half of electronic luminaries Isan for over fifteen years.  Earning a reputation for bringing an emotional dimension to music with a reputation for the cerebral, Isan have claimed to be in the business of making easy listening out of difficult sounds.

In addition to keeping his end of the Isan bargain, Robin occasionally records music under his own name, exploring more acoustic and bucolic textures (see also 2008's 'Peasgood Nonsuch' on the excellent Static Caravan label).  
Robin's new solo album, 'Public Flowers,' is about creating a series of soundscapes both familiar and stimulating.  The music here is a canny blend of repetition and constant change, echoing the organic experimentation of the likes of American minimalist composer Steve Reich, the evocative soundtracks of Piero Milesi and the experimental/ambient work of Cluster.  A keen gardener, Saville's love for the British landscape is also made apparent in the mix by the subtle use of field recordings, the music seamlessly blending into the sonic environment as if recorded in situ.

The title of the album is a quote from Edwardian children's book, 'The Story Of The Amulet,' by Fabian Society founder, Edith Nesbit.  It makes reference to a utopian society based on equality and a respect for the natural world - Saville's music would seem to be the perfect soundtrack for this imagined world.
"I must not litter the beautiful street with bits of paper or things to eat; I must not pick the public flowers.  They are not MINE, but they are OURS."

'Public Flowers'  is number No.6 in the 2L Library Series - a highly collectible catalogue of hardback CD albums designed to be stored in your bookcase.  Art direction, photography, design by Martin Masai Andersen/Andersen M Studio.

An accompanying bonus disc, 'Hybrids,' (SL028x), featuring remixes of tracks from 'Public Flowers' by Loscil, P.Manasseh, Dollboy, Clouds and Mugwood is available only to Second Language subscribers with this release.

The Moulettes return with their third studio album, and their first for the Navigator Records, ‘Constellations’ on June 2nd. Recorded in studios, churches, tunnels, workshops and bedrooms around Brighton and Lewes in the summer of 2013, the album features a host of guest performances from legends Arthur Brown (“God of Hellfire”) and Herbie Flowers (Lou Reed/David Bowie) and contemporaries Blaine Harrison (Mystery Jets), The Unthanks  and Emma Richardson (Band Of Skulls). Brighton dub troubadour Faye Houston and dubstep producer Mike Dennis (Dface) complete a supporting cast that emphasises the band’s desire to blend musical styles and experiment with sound in a way that has been a hallmark of their recordings to date. Thus ‘Constellations’ crosses varied and expansive musical territory over its ten tracks. As songwriter, cellist and front singer Hannah Miller notes, “People can listen to Moulettes and hear Shostakovich, Miles Davis, Pentangle, Pink Floyd, Bjork and Skrillex. That is where we’ve all come from…everyone shares in over 80 years of recorded music history”. 

‘Constellations’ contains the headrush pop folk of ‘Glorious Year’, the psycho-drama of the title track and the noir trip hop of ‘Lady Vengeance’ in an opening salvo that is unlikely to be matched in scope by many, if any, albums released this year. An album criss-crossed with stories and imagery, ‘Constellations’ can accommodate the 20’s belle époque waltz of ‘The Night Is Young’, the progressive folk of ‘The Observatory’ and the death disco dub of album closer ‘Keep It As A Memory’ whilst remaining a cohesive piece that sparkles with inventiveness and creativity throughout.

Few bands have the musical range of The Moulettes. Containing a mix of self taught and classically trained members who have shared the stage and studio with the likes of Mick Jagger, Nick Cave, Seasick Steve, Bonobo and Dave Gilmour, their significant initial period was spent playing live and promoting the Den Of Iniquity nights in London that brought a host of acts to public prominence.  After seven years of being a live band it was only in 2009 that their eponymous debut was released. This was followed in 2011 by ‘The Bear’s Revenge’, an album that saw MOJO hail them as “complex and beautiful…intriguing and unique”. Moulettes have constantly been on the road for 4 years and have played festivals as varied as Cropredy  to End of the Road. They continue their busy gig schedule throughout April and May prior to a host of summer festival dates (see below).

The song is based on the 1953 film 'The Conquest of Everest', which told the story of Hillary, Tensing et al's successful ascent of the tallest mountain in the world, and which was directed by expedition member George Lowe.

8 Miles To Moenart has literally brought Tall Black Guy full circle. Detroit was where he
started making music, and it’s to his hometown he returns to draw inspiration for his
debut album. Taking in low-slung hip hop, downtempo house and jazz-tinged street soul,
it’s a record of rare focus. Largely instrumental, he’s also added some choice collabs
with Ozay Moore (formerly known as Othello) and Diggs Duke, bringing their own
unique styles to the melting pot. This record encapsulates the musical heritage
of Detroit, through the looking glass of Tall Black Guy's own signature sound.
