Today we introduce you to the Electro producer and live act OBZERV, based in the U.K. His music inspired by concepts from the realms of science fiction and through his subtle observation of life.

1. Which artists has influenced you the most?

- There is not one artist that has inspired me the most, different artists are constantly inspiring me in different ways. Two artists that come to mind straight away are Animistic Beliefs and The Outsert. These two artist have been inspiring me recently to create music that doesn’t specifically confine to any genre and takes inspiration from different genres and cultures to create something that is different.

2. What new projects/releases with your participation are expected in the near future?

- I have not been working very much on releasing music at the moment but you can expect to see some of my electro work on Cultivated Electronics and GunFinger Food in the coming year.

3. Which artists/labels is more relevant to you now?

- I really have no idea. I want to release some of my new music eventually but I am always asking myself which labels would be good for me to release on. For listening pleasure I have been listening to mostly friends music recently, labels such as Patchbay Records, Gunfinger Food feel relevant to me at the moment because I personally feel involved in their journey.

4. What inspires you now to create music?

- I mostly inspired by my friends to create music. I am constantly working with friends and in the midst of collaboration I feel that my most creative side comes out. I feel a lot more inspired when working with someone than when I am alone, I think this is because you have someone to bounce ideas back and fourth with and I feel a lot less judgmental about my work.

5. What set-up do you use when creating music?

- I have been gigging a bit recently so have been using my hardware to write music for my live sets. I am using a Digitakt, Digitone, SH01A, Micromonsta, a rat distortion pedal and a strymon deco tape saturation pedal. I will create ideas with this set up and try to make them into full tracks later on using ableton to record the sounds.

Silver Streams is the third ambient full-length from Emile Facey under the Plant43 moniker. Better known for his electro output, the UK producer has been writing and storing up atmospheric synthesiser experiments alongside his dancefloor oriented output since his last ambient LP ‘The Countless Stones’ released on Bandcamp in 2020. This meditative, evocative eight track journey is typical of Facey’s beautifully rendered emotional output and is a perfect match for the stunningly atmospheric artwork, also by Facey, which accompanies the album.

Based in the South of England, UK, Emile Facey is also a graphic designer and illustrator. He has been promoting underground electro and techno events since the late 90’s. As a producer he’s been releasing records since 2005 with a string of releases on respected scene favourites such as Central Processing Unit, Frustrated Funk, Semantica, Shipwrec, 20:20 Vision and Cultivated Electronics, among others. He has played live alongside DJ Stingray, ERP/Convextion, The Advent, Surgeon, Legowelt, DJ Overdose, Urban Tribe and Datassette among many others.

Phil got his first pair of turntables in 2001 and has been passionately collecting records and DJing ever since. His first residency came at the age of 17 for deep house night ‘No Shanti’ in York followed by a residency at ‘Howdoyoudo?’ along with many guest slots around the city. During his time in Nottingham he started his own event ‘Sherbert’ at the infamous ‘Moog’ pub before founding ‘Subterranea' in 2013 - ten years later Phil remains resident DJ and co-promoter. 

In 2022 Phil joined the team at The Imaginarium and opened Plant & Deck, Leeds’ only house plant and record shop. The shop specialises in house plants of all varieties and left-field leaning electronic music from ambient and electronica through house, techno, electro and breaks. Green fingers aside this allows him the opportunity to tip the city’s vinyl diggers by drawing upon his extensive knowledge of, and passion for, electronic music.

In over 20 years of DJing at, and throwing, parties he has warmed up and closed for countless DJs including Radioactive Man, Conforce & Versalife, Surgeon, Jamie Anderson, Trevino, Neville Watson and Alex Smoke to name just a few. Playing exclusively on vinyl, Phil is an accomplished DJ in his own right with shelves and shelves of records fit for any dancefloor. For the modulations mix series he has dug out an hour of spaced out electro wobblers, the majority of which are available at Plant & Deck.
