Overall the mix is pretty floor focused but also keeps a perilous vibe at the same time. Old but gold.

SESIONES:ELECTRO #022 - EKATA

Today we introduce you to the Electro producer and live act OBZERV, based in the U.K. His music inspired by concepts from the realms of science fiction and through his subtle observation of life.

1. Which artists has influenced you the most?

- There is not one artist that has inspired me the most, different artists are constantly inspiring me in different ways. Two artists that come to mind straight away are Animistic Beliefs and The Outsert. These two artist have been inspiring me recently to create music that doesn’t specifically confine to any genre and takes inspiration from different genres and cultures to create something that is different.

2. What new projects/releases with your participation are expected in the near future?

- I have not been working very much on releasing music at the moment but you can expect to see some of my electro work on Cultivated Electronics and GunFinger Food in the coming year.

3. Which artists/labels is more relevant to you now?

- I really have no idea. I want to release some of my new music eventually but I am always asking myself which labels would be good for me to release on. For listening pleasure I have been listening to mostly friends music recently, labels such as Patchbay Records, Gunfinger Food feel relevant to me at the moment because I personally feel involved in their journey.

4. What inspires you now to create music?

- I mostly inspired by my friends to create music. I am constantly working with friends and in the midst of collaboration I feel that my most creative side comes out. I feel a lot more inspired when working with someone than when I am alone, I think this is because you have someone to bounce ideas back and fourth with and I feel a lot less judgmental about my work.

5. What set-up do you use when creating music?

- I have been gigging a bit recently so have been using my hardware to write music for my live sets. I am using a Digitakt, Digitone, SH01A, Micromonsta, a rat distortion pedal and a strymon deco tape saturation pedal. I will create ideas with this set up and try to make them into full tracks later on using ableton to record the sounds.

Silver Streams is the third ambient full-length from Emile Facey under the Plant43 moniker. Better known for his electro output, the UK producer has been writing and storing up atmospheric synthesiser experiments alongside his dancefloor oriented output since his last ambient LP ‘The Countless Stones’ released on Bandcamp in 2020. This meditative, evocative eight track journey is typical of Facey’s beautifully rendered emotional output and is a perfect match for the stunningly atmospheric artwork, also by Facey, which accompanies the album.

Based in the South of England, UK, Emile Facey is also a graphic designer and illustrator. He has been promoting underground electro and techno events since the late 90’s. As a producer he’s been releasing records since 2005 with a string of releases on respected scene favourites such as Central Processing Unit, Frustrated Funk, Semantica, Shipwrec, 20:20 Vision and Cultivated Electronics, among others. He has played live alongside DJ Stingray, ERP/Convextion, The Advent, Surgeon, Legowelt, DJ Overdose, Urban Tribe and Datassette among many others.

Which artist has influenced you the most?

- Too many to mention, I get loads of inspiration from a lot of people of different genres of music, be it electronic or rock/guitar music/classical. For electronic, I would ultimately say my biggest influence/inspiration would be Richard.D.James. He's just fearless and totally true to himself and his sound, immensely talented individual. His music has got me through so much in my life and I am eternally indebted. I think my music has alot of the spirit of what he's doing but hopefully it's not plagiarized or a ripoff, I think I've found my own sound over the years.

What new projects/releases with your participation are expected in the near future?

- I have a new album coming out late feb/march on Anil Lal's Altered Sense label, it's a double with alot of breakbeat and early 90s UK Hardcore spirit. There is also a split ep I have coming out with InkiPak (Jon) on Wavefunction which will be great to put out. Also a follow up ep on 030303 to my 'Polysynthesis' ep I had out with them. There may also be further material coming out on Furthur Electronix at some point, currently just archiving/stockpiling new material for that.

Which artists/labels is more relevant to you now?

- Mainly the ones I've released on, kindred spirits and a huge influence on me. Different people on different labels, but they are all wonderful, cool people who are easy to get along with 030303, Furthur Electronix, Brokntoys, La Beauté Du Négatif, Withhold etc. All wicked labels with so much talent on them.
Special shout out and respect to Mateo, Anwar, Anil Lal, Steijn, Neil Fulcrum 4. The list is too long to write here.

What inspires you now to create music?

- Can be anything, art, music, film, literature, being alive and living in the current. Knowing that without my music I would have nothing. It's easy to stay motivated if music is all you have.

Syrte is the Electro & Experimental Electronica alias for Stefan Weise. The name was inspired by the French comic book Valerian & Laureline, the German editions of which Stefan read in his younger days. On page one of the first issue, “The City of a Thousand Planets” is named “Syrte”. 

What started as a way to explore new production methods quickly evolved into a character of its own making Syrte a completely faceless entity with a strong focus on alien and experimental music. Syrte is not about conforming to a set genre or sound. Stefan’s mission as Syrte is about exploring deeper relationships that humans have with machines and moral implications that arise from that and expressing that via music.

Syrte is co-owner of Electro and Experimental label Science Cult.
