From open till close the space was bustling with faces both familiar and fresh. Over the years it had welcomed all manner of vibrant characters; some made their way here from across the world while others were local devotees, who had begun to call this place home. Community would continue to remain at its core: a hub for those with open minds and open ears. 

To celebrate ten years in the game, Milan-based record shop Serendeepity have rounded up artists and friends from around the world for a mammoth compilation, released on vinyl in four consecutive parts. Totalling 18 original tracks, the release features a star-studded cast, all of whom have supported the store over the last decade — the likes of San Proper, Dj Marcelle, JD Twitch, Ellen Allien, Egyptian Lover, Matias Aguayo, Tamburi Neri and many more.

After the success of the first, there always had to be a second Buena Onda compilation. Before that arrives later this year comes a second delicious sampler featuring a remix from Calm, some 303 Balearic action from Iceland, Italian house newcomer Relative and a fresh Gallo rework.

Buena Onda is of course the cult Berlin-based party that constantly redefines Balearic music. It is run by Hell Yeah label boss Marco with resident DJ and co-founder Gallo and is a party that is both eclectic and euphoric, whether serving up slow acid or dreamy downtempo.

This sampler opens up with Buena Onda favourite Calm and his epic Mellow Mellow Acid remix of Gallo's 'Abysso,' which is long-legged, fulsome and laced with life-affirming piano chords. Then comes Icelandic artist Tonarunur who used to record as B.G. Baarregaard and has landed on the likes of Eskimo Recordings and Citizens of Vice. He layers deep acid lines into a smooth house groove that is sprinkled with cosmic dust. Italian house newcomer Relative then brings tumbling percussion, smeared chords and plenty of drama Italo vibes to his tune 'The Healing Place' and Gallo's Tropical Hinterhof Remix of Kayroy's 'Imagine' is five minutes of post-rave comedown bliss with gorgeous ambient design and celestial chord work that soothes the soul.

This is another perfect snapshot of the mature musical thrills you get at Buena Onda.

Welcome to Dazion’s Grooveboxxx – a maxi-sized love letter to The Hague’s 80s and 90s club scene crafted with minimal tools and loaded with vibe. It’s no coincidence it arrives on Dekmantel, a label with its own roots in the same Dutch city’s electronic music culture.

Dazion is The Hague’s Cris Kuhlen, previously spotted releasing on Second Circle, Safe Trip and Animals Dancing. He cut his teeth clubbing and working at long-since closed clubs like Eau, described in Kuhlen’s own words as, “clubs with blocks to dance on, lazers, decorations, crazy extravert [sic] parties.”

In capturing the spirit of Eau and the other formative parties of his youth, Kuhlen limited himself to just one machine to make his longest work to date – the Roland MC-303 Groovebox. While these entry level units from the mid-90s had stripped down functionality in the wider spectrum of studio gear, they contained all the iconic Roland sounds in a Rompler style, giving the user access to everything necessary to make raw, immediate club tracks without requiring an entire studio’s worth of hardware.

The brash gear of choice set the tone for a record of rough, ready and playful jams which end up more sophisticated than you’d expect from such limited means. ‘La DS’ jacks with a freaky, bleep techno intensity, while ‘Kimberly & Nance Backstage Rehearsal’ rides an angular groove tooled to inspire the weirdest dance moves of the night. Every track is named in reference to a particular nightspot, a hazy memory or moment from Kuhlen’s formative raving years.

This is the sound of Dazion having the time of his life. You might well hear a nod to the odd rock totem being given a re-version in irreverent new beat style or some gnarly US acid breaks vibes riding underneath helium rap licks. But for all the cheekiness, the tracks stand up both as nods to halcyon days and relevant workouts for the sweatiest parties in the here and now. As MC Paul T says in dramatic style heralding the intro of Grooveboxxx, “This movement will live on forever.”

Rune Lindbæk from the now legendary ‘Those Norwegians’ recording outfit has been releasing music since 1992. He has produced with the disco heroes Todd Terje, Idjut Boys and Lindstrøm, and remixed artists like The Knife, José Gonzalez and Bryan Ferry. He has released music with seminal labels like Smalltown Supersound, Apollo/R&S, Noid and his own Drum Island Records. Rune’s musical output ranges from ambient to film music and balearic dub disco. His unique DJ style has taken him to 25 countries and he held a monthly residency at Oslo´s legendary basement Nomaden for nine years that has been a huge influence on the Norwegian deep disco explosion.

Its been another busy year for @neinrecords with a stream of quality releases. As we come to end of 2017, they offer up 6 brand new tracks from there new compilation 'Techno But Not Techno'. Featuring Black Light Smoke,  Alejandro Molinari, Lusca, Disconnected, Man2.0 and Volta Cab.

Taking the lead in comp with a killer of a track is @black-light-smoke aka Jordan Lieb.  Emmy Award winning composer/producer/musician... his sound is raw, personal, analog and melodic. He draws on house, electro, new wave, italo-disco and post-punk, often infusing his own unique vocals. He's performed his original live set at Fabric, Boiler Room, Robot Heart, BPM festival and in many other cities across North America.

Wit Bad is the result of a beautiful collaborative project that started with illustrator Joost Stokhof. He was asked as an artist in residence for Amsterdam’s Hortus Botanicus, a place where Joost locked himself up for a week alongside the finest biodiversity in the city. Joost asked Eefje de visser to join him for a day and Eefje asked Nuno dos Santos to form a powerful trinity of which Wit Blad is the unmistakable evidence.

The original version was released in April of 2018 and we finally have a vinyl (only) version to go along with it. On the A side we find an 808 version, which is an extended version by Nuno of the ‘Wit Blad’ original. Zooming in on the drums and bass line while leaving even more space for Eefjes haunting voice. Eefje is one of Holland’s best kept music secrets, her voice is soothing and her presence like a siren song seducing you in. Immersing the music with field recordings, you can hear the birds and surroundings the piece was recorded and even some whispering voices that only add to the atmosphere.
Flipping to the other side we find our dear friend Mattheis remixing Wit Blad in a strong hypnotic vibe. Containing Mattheis’ trademark synth swirls, it’s as soothing as it is driving with spine tingling harmonics slowly creeping in and out.

This all comes packaged in a silkscreen printed cover containing the illustrations that Joost Stokhof made during their time together. The vinyl also includes a small poster including extra images by Joost and the lyrics of Wit Blad. Adding up to a beautiful feast for both the eyes and ears.

Melbourne imprint Animals Dancing & Dutch producer, Dazion present a little surprise during these dystopian days we find ourselves in. A fast-tracked, straight to digital pre-release for all of humanity to dance in the apocalypse in self-isolated pleasure (before the vinyl is released).

On Animals Dancing’s eighth disc, Dazion aka Cris Kuhlen lets rip with three psychoactive, percussion-laden mind benders for all good dance floors.

A tweaked vocoder mantra speaks in tongues across interlaced layers of live percussion on ‘Yu Go Bah’ before sirens ring in the distant chants.

Blood Moon takes the marching band down to the basement, fusing more twisted percussion with electro squelch to soundtrack the sweat rain down from the heavens.

’The Chant Of Celebrational Beings’ beckons in a sunrise as the last inklings of serotonin jerk a tear to your eye.
