Swiss duo ME & her join the Hottrax roster with a robust release featuring British duo Dense & Pika and Detroit’s DJ Bone on remix duties.

With recent appearances on Deeperfect, Natura Viva and Clarisse Records, the rising duo has quickly cemented a reputation as ones to watch since making their production debut back in 2014. Joining them on the release is Dense & Pika, who have been taking the world by storm whilst releasing on leading labels such as Adam Beyer’s Drumcode, Scuba’s Hotflush, not to mention renowned UK imprint Hypercolour. Meanwhile, DJ Bone needs little introduction having paved the way for quality techno for over two decades including running his renowned Subject Detroit imprint.

Sturdy kicks and intricate effects drive ‘Wild Rage’ forward before introducing metallic snares and animated melodies. On the other hand, ‘Thunderstruck’ is a dusky production composed of heady stabs and echoing elements that together generate a compelling groove. Dense & Pika’s shuffling remix of ‘Wild Rage’ shines a spotlight on a tantalizing synth as eerie nuances operate throughout, before DJ Bone concludes the package with a trippy and percussive reinterpretation of his own.

Ramiro Lopez drops the electrifying follow up to his ‘Pretending’ EP from May this year. 

For almost a decade, Spain’s Ramiro Lopez has established himself as one his country’s leading proponents of techno, with strong releases across labels that include Suara, Intec, Octopus Recordings and Bedrock. He first debuted on Drumcode in 2016 with the rousing collaborative track ‘Clap Your Hands’ that ranked among one of the label’s standout tracks for the year. With one Drumcode release already under his belt in 2017 and a new label project Odd Recordings with fellow DC cohort Arjun Vagale recently launched, he’s enjoying another strong year.

His return to the label comes in the form of ‘Being Alone’, a powerful trio of cuts, all of which featured in Adam Beyer’s Awakenings Festival Day 1 performance. The title track is a multi-layered weapon, propelled by a dizzying vocal, swirling synth effects and pin-sharp percussion that build toward a smooth classy finish. ‘Dark Science’ is an effective stomper brought to life by a bell chime hookline and undulating synth melody ensuring its peak-time prowess. ‘Der Raum’ rounds out the EP, highlighted by Lopez’s deft drum work, proceeded by a driving, euphoric climax.

LENSKE’s first release by Farrago, “Risin”, comes packing high velocity punches, including a collaboration with Amelie Lens and a remix from Kobosil. The EP’s A side is packed near 12 minutes of crisp machine driven techno with Farrago’s rattling peak-time “The Riddler” being the first to puncture. The title track, “Risin”, will only be released as the Kobosil remix, a titanium tour of auditory horrors, which also borrows from the EP’s other tracks. Lens’ signature sultry vocal samples on the B side’s “Jealousy” draw the contours of a jaw grinding banger, while “Hidden Power” rounds out the release with a blaring dance floor siren encased in exquisitely unpredictable arrangement. Drawing inspiration from her first worldwide tour, where life on the road was impacted by personal loss, the album title Pink Bubble captures the essence of the artist’s mindset, caught in between the artistic world and real life: “I felt like in a pink bubble, between memories and new experiences, between darkness and colours”. Brandishing an immersive sonic sphere, the classically trained musician played and recorded all instruments throughout the album, including her favourite weapons of choice, from her beloved 60’s guitar to vintage analog synths like the Moog Sub37, Juno 106, the infamous O-B-6 synth and more.

The synesthesia of dark and colourful with new and old memories stands at the core of the album, as introspective airy tracks intertwine with more dynamic, bass-heavy constructions.

On its luminous side, we see cuts radiating with crystalline, microscoping sounds with sweeping ambience like the opener A Perfect Day in Tulum, leading the listener on a nervous path towards more obscure tracks such as Copenhagen and Nothing to Lose, until bringing the atmosphere to a boiling point. Music is Life encapsulates Giorgia’s passion for her craft, an intrinsic part of her life that brings peace and inspiration: “Music is life with wings, sit in the warm water, just reflecting, being”. Creation and being inspired represent another major theme present throughout the album, both in the eponymous track Inspiration, as well as A Temple Made by Air, where the artist can be heard singing: “Passion means satisfaction, wrong emotions create distortion, come with me to enjoy the green, stop losing time on your screen”. Channelling an overflow of emotions, a return to humanity comes as a resolution for the artist, the central idea in The Contact is a Cure. Giorgia feels that, although useful, “technology is the big nightmare of our society, and we are all missing the contact with nature and human beings”. Rounding off the last part of the release, the sun-drenched Pink Bubble stands as reflective and intense, managing to transfuse the same magnetism that is quintessential to Giorgia’s live performances.

With Pink Bubble, Giorgia Angiuli refines her signature sound across a range of tempos, in a project that can be appreciated both for its intricate groundings and beautiful simplicity.
