Naples born and based @lerio-corrado returns to Second State with debut solo EP ‘A38’. After several contributions to the Berlin label’s ‘SUM’ compilation series, Corrado delivers this five track EP showcasing the best of Italy’s techno.

Lerio kicks off with mischievous melodies and a confident kick in the opener, ‘Overwrite’. Light and syncopated percussion snaps and shakes over the lead chord whilst the volume increases and begins to brew tension, soon accompanied by an erratic solitaire idiophone component. Following is ‘Test Pressing’, an unrelenting, full bodied cut with a deep bass and looping metallic element that furiously circles throughout the track. Snappy hi hats are dappled throughout in unison with the kick, creating an anxious energy. ‘Not Yet’ begins with a kick and an alternating pitch of the lead line. The main rhythm smoothly rolls throughout the foundations of this cut, maintaining a slick and grooving vibe despite the sharpness of the shakers and hi hats.

Dancefloor driven cut ‘Roar’ consists of wavering electronics, growls and punchy components. Listening with full intensity creates a sense of an electro-magnetic field surrounding the listener. Corrado strips back the lead line for the final leg and lets a thundering kick and shakers drive forward. ‘A Tre’ has a thud-like kick and somewhat tribal elements. Shakers and rhythmic bleeps jiggle and dance erratically, injecting serious energy into the EP for its final track. Short closed hats and a gurgling sample ring out and echo menacingly, also creating a dark atmosphere.

Second State will drop its next various artists' compilation this summer featuring 12 artists from today’s techno scene, showcasing their individual sound and production skills. The 11 tracks each incorporate elements from techno sub-genres to create a varied and intoxicating release from the Berlin imprint, welcoming Second State regulars and new names alike to continue paving the way for the label’s sound. 

Returning to Second State is Yotam Avni, who opens the record with the dynamically layered ‘Panic’. The breakdowns of this track switch up during its flow, varying in intensity as it progresses. Valentinø and My Flower hasten the pace with ‘Lightfire’, packed with minimal drumwork, booming bass and phased bursts of ethereal keys. Up next is Simon Stiglmeier with a piece of kaleidoscopic techno in ‘Dancy’, complete with a grooving vocal synth. SOTO follows with enveloping bass and rippling synth waves in ‘Core’, whilst Techno live band Komfortrauschen power on with a warbling bassline and whirring atmospherics with ‘Each Second’. 

‘Subconscious Reset’ from Juliet Fox contributes a barrage of alarms and sharp, chilling synths that echo menacingly throughout, followed by Isabel Soto with pulsating cut ‘Momentum’ - a stripped back, down-tempo roller. Gutto Serta takes listeners down a rabbit hole with trippy cut ‘Maximize’, with airy pads whispering underneath bleeps and a sultry vocal sample. Building the record to crescendo is Dextro’s booming and raucous track ‘Omonoia’, with razor sharp hoover sounds and an earth-shattering kick & hi-hat combo. Maintaining the powerful energy is Daryl Stay with his propulsive weapon ‘Phalanx’, followed by the final track from Avision, ‘Tunnel’, featuring playful synth and acid lines that bounce over the phased percussion, and a shift in pitch to build the track’s intensity.

"Surf EP" is the result of a collaboration between the live Techno band Komfortrauschen and Berlin based Rocko Garoni. All tracks are based on jam sessions in their studio. "There was not much talking, just plugging in our instruments and playing".

Komfortrauschen and Rocko Garoni are friends for years now and often sharing stages in various clubs all over Germany. There is a deep understanding in what both sides want to express. Creating tracks together was a logic consequence and just felt natural.

The first track is called Xlime and its dedicated to the 90s and Detroit Techno. This dance floor smasher is such a sick beauty between the past and the future.

Surf is based on an Acid riff which is played on a guitar. "Adding all the other elements just felt like riding a wave together."

55555 is a little bit more experimental with a great DnBish breakbeat tune and hypnotising shouts

Reform completes the EP with an infamous remix of Surf, highlighting more the melodic elements.
