Three years after his last full-length album on Delsin, tireless techno producer Mike Dehnert is back with another one to be released on March 17th 2014. The 104th release on Delsin, entitled Lichtbedingt, counts 12 tracks and is yet another subtle evolution away from the chord driven, functional sound he has championed before now.

Since his last album, Dehnert has continued to steer his Fachwerk label through the techno undergrowth and it has now amassed more than 25 releases in all. At the heart of the label’s output has been Dehnert’s own increasingly experimental techno and this new album is testament to the producer’s continued exploration of the form.  Where Framework was, in the words of Mike himself, “focussed on the heavy techno form”, this album explores broken bass, swinging house and beatless electronic experimentalism amongst other things. 
“I love to release music. I still enjoy the album writing process very much,” says Mike, before adding, “I have noticed that sometimes the success of a track depends on the light at club, which is why the album is called Lichtbedingt, meaning ‘depends on light!’”

The album starts off with a suitably sombre intro that features cold, slowly shifting synths. They set an uneasy and moody tone before ‘Construction’ settles into a fat, swaggering.  From there you get lost in broken, ruptured, malfunctioning bits of hardware that spit out random hi hats, bleeps and gurgles and then eventually get spat out the other side into a cantering bit of dubwise techno with paranoid vocal snippets. 

Moving along, the album throws plenty of diverse influences into the mix: ‘Movement’ is freaky and dynamic, skipping and pumping, ducking and diving through all sorts of occult synth sounds and shadowy vocal loops then ‘Single Action’ is like a sledge hammer groove run through with harmonic elements that glint and glisten like diamonds in the rough. Classic sounding Dehnert tracks like ‘ReRe’ remind us where this producer has come from, whilst the breezy house swagger of ‘Emlo’ show us where he might be headed. 

Key to this album and Dehnert’s output as a whole is, besides the killer grooves, the production: crisp and clean, full blooded and always outstanding, it makes his tracks leap out of the speakers and into minds, bodies and souls without relying on the usual tropes or same old cheap tricks.

For the second time in as many releases, we at Second State are proud to deliver a brand new artist to the label. This time it's the Techno savvy Michael Klein from Berlin and with his Drawing EP, he delivers three stellar tracks cut from a master's palette. 

Starting off with the title track 'Drawing', Michael takes us on a journey deep into the celestial spaces between lush dub and four-to-the-floor mayhem. Littered with massive stabs of solar bursts, 'Drawing' is a thrill ride at a neck break pace perfect for lifting the whole place off the foundation. 

Following the opening track is 'Illusive Space' and the name says it all. Like a jet engine, the drums do all the work, propelling the ship into hyper speed while just a couple massive blasts of a synth act as shifts into a higher gear with no slowing down in sight. 

With the final cut 'Pattern Movement', Michael enlists the help of Genevieve Marentette to pull off a colossal grinder of throbbing percussives. Interweaving agile drums with auditory hallucinations of provocative female vocals chant what everyone wants: 'Get it'. We couldn't be happier to have this guy on board and think you will agree with us unconditionally. Welcome to the Second State family Michael Klein!

Fachwerk boss and dubby techno don Mike Dehnert steps away from his usual home for a new EP on Delsin entitled ‘Umgangston’. It’s not his first time on the label following last year’s Fachwerk album, but it does see him cast his sonic net a little further afield.

‘Andruck’ swings back and forth on a squelchy synth hook as tin foil hi hats cut up long thin pads. Knocking bell sounds add plenty of silvery colours to the dubby bass below, and it’s one of the more serene and beautiful Dehnert cuts of recent times.

‘Tracer’ is much sterner, with huge Basic Channel dub waves breaking beneath scratchy synths and acid bleeps. Fizzing and fine grain like warm white noise, it’s for those more intense dancefloor moments.

‘Refillable’ finds Mike in full on rave mode with filters twisting and turning and skewing synths into weird patterns as hi hat ringlets race between sandy claps and a tortured vocal yelps out every so often. Rushy and racy, it’s underpinned with a walloping kick drum where closer ‘Umgangston’ is about knife-edge intensity, cantering kick drums and wild, freeform synth lines.

Seemingly a touch untethered from his usual basement dub techno aesthetic, Mike Dehnert might surprise you with this one.

Italian artist Hollen makes his Intec debut following a highly successful career thats seen him feature on some of the worlds most influential techno labels such as Terminal M, Tronic, Filth On Acid, Unrilis, KD Music and many more.

Not only a techno producer, Hollen is a talented artist who has also produced many house tracks for leading labels ranging from Nic Fanciullis Saved Records to John Digweeds Bedrock, but despite being an eclectic artist techno is his main passion.

Hollen also expresses his love of techno through releases on his own label Prospect Records, and has a busy gig schedule that sees him play headline sets all over Italy and other parts of the world outside of Europe.

Also collaborating with Hollen for the third track on this EP is The Southern, who himself is a successful artist with many releases on labels ranging from Odd Recordings to AnalyticTrail.

Cosmic Girl opens the release with its flickering melody and seductive vocals layered over a firm percussive foundation. The hypnotic groove and tightly sequenced rhythms give the track a mechanical feel that runs like a well-oiled machine.

Next up Cant You See Them has pitched tom drums and a rolling bassline with vocal stabs and distant chants layered under a thrashing ride cymbal, which combined create an incredibly powerful forward momentum. The euphoric breakdown provides a hands in the air moment before the percussion comes crashing in for some more booty shaking action.

Closing the EP is the collaboration with The Southern titled Hypnotic Whip that's a little darker and more stripped back than the other two tracks. With hints of euphoria and intense clap rhythms, its grainy stabs rip through to add some extra ferocity.
