Berlin based producer @charlyschaller presents her first solo release with Second State, ‘Togians EP’. Having exploded onto today’s techno circuit with releases across esteemed labels, the launch of her ‘Realness’ event series and regular appearances at the likes of About Blank and Griessmühle, the fast-ascending producer conjures up a momentous 4 tracker for the revered Berlin label. 

Title track ‘Togians’ is a demonic cut, triggering disquiet through layers of harsh growls and foreboding keys. Schaller lets light into the darkness as the story unravels, with a phantasmic twinkling break, before monstrous atmospherics envelop you once again. Next is ‘Can’t Move’, in which Susan Riot’s voice croons hypnotically, uniting sinister drones and spiralling alarms to stir up a threatening and transfixing techno-anthem.

In ‘Television Static’ a male vocal reverberates mournfully, while a fierce energy builds subtly underneath. With stirring chord progressions leading us to an ecstatic break – the yearning voice calling out the whole while – Schaller creates a deeply emotive track that tugs on the heartstrings. The EP closes with ‘Fly Fly’: an uplifting broken beat sweeps you up into the confident care of Dani Delion, whose vocals paint thrilling pictures, encouraging you to join her in revelry and fly.

Second State will drop its next various artists' compilation this summer featuring 12 artists from today’s techno scene, showcasing their individual sound and production skills. The 11 tracks each incorporate elements from techno sub-genres to create a varied and intoxicating release from the Berlin imprint, welcoming Second State regulars and new names alike to continue paving the way for the label’s sound. 

Returning to Second State is Yotam Avni, who opens the record with the dynamically layered ‘Panic’. The breakdowns of this track switch up during its flow, varying in intensity as it progresses. Valentinø and My Flower hasten the pace with ‘Lightfire’, packed with minimal drumwork, booming bass and phased bursts of ethereal keys. Up next is Simon Stiglmeier with a piece of kaleidoscopic techno in ‘Dancy’, complete with a grooving vocal synth. SOTO follows with enveloping bass and rippling synth waves in ‘Core’, whilst Techno live band Komfortrauschen power on with a warbling bassline and whirring atmospherics with ‘Each Second’. 

‘Subconscious Reset’ from Juliet Fox contributes a barrage of alarms and sharp, chilling synths that echo menacingly throughout, followed by Isabel Soto with pulsating cut ‘Momentum’ - a stripped back, down-tempo roller. Gutto Serta takes listeners down a rabbit hole with trippy cut ‘Maximize’, with airy pads whispering underneath bleeps and a sultry vocal sample. Building the record to crescendo is Dextro’s booming and raucous track ‘Omonoia’, with razor sharp hoover sounds and an earth-shattering kick & hi-hat combo. Maintaining the powerful energy is Daryl Stay with his propulsive weapon ‘Phalanx’, followed by the final track from Avision, ‘Tunnel’, featuring playful synth and acid lines that bounce over the phased percussion, and a shift in pitch to build the track’s intensity.

Founded in 1999, Rilis is the label from Naples techno pioneer Rino Cerrone that has exclusively released his own tracks as a series of ten vinyl EPs, but has also included remixes from old school heads such as The Advent, Gaetano Parisio, Stanny Franssen, Joseph Capriati and many more.

Relaunching the label after over a decade of being dormant, they have enlisted a couple of established producers showing their pedigree with a new four-track techno tool exploration titled Route following appearances on Marco Bailey’s MB Elektronics and Ben Sims’ Hardgroove.

Samuel L Session is a longstanding, influential producer who has contributed to Slam’s Soma, Shlomi Aber’s Be As One, Len Faki’s Figure and Emmanuel’s ARTS as well as his own imprints SLS, Cycle, New Soil, and Klap Klap.

Belgian Van Czar is now based in Spain and is an accomplished DJ who has also released on Kevin Saunderson’s KMS Records amongst others.

For this DT:Premiere we selected the track called “18-022” that is an understated floor worker. Raw and jackin’ with a racy, rippling bassline, its hypnotic traits combine with the dystopian tones and stripped back, analogue groove that make it shine with a classic personality.

DJ Dextro makes his full release debut on Berlin's Second State following releases across some of techno’s most established labels throughout his long-standing career. The Portuguese DJ/producer is a mainstay of the scene there, holding residencies in many clubs across the country as well as performing shows globally. He now steps up for his first EP with Second State, containing 5 deep and grooving tracks.

Quick paced opener ‘Commodore’ commands focus with a raucous kick drum propelling the track forward. The rhythm is muscular, laced with icy hi-hats and growling keys shooting throughout. Up next is ‘The Day After Tomorrow’ with a vigorous metallic string element reverberating throughout, rising and falling in tempo as lighter keys and soaring vocals dominate momentarily, bringing a euphoric 90s rave feel. Taking us deeper and darker is ‘Soul Rider’, proceeding with low lying keys and a robust jacking kick. The rolling bass and rhythmic keys creates a hypnotizing loop only disrupted by a smooth, soulful sample and fleeting presence of lively shakers and a solitary hi-hat.

Initially stripped back and minimalistic, ‘Freak Patch’ calls upon a muted alarm, tight key arrangements and uniform percussion to pick up momentum. A devious sample sneers over the music at intervals, adding to the anxious energy created in this cut. Closing out is ‘Walk Away’ a brooding, dance floor ready cut with twisted melodies and catchy detuned loops. The title is spitted out repeatedly throughout in tandem with the crisp percussion, ending the EP on an eccentric but electrifying high.
