Grüt consists of four members who collectively write and compose original music. The band has no leader. Members challenge each other to learn and explore all types of music, familiar and unfamiliar. Grüt fuses many styles of music: jazz, experimental, electronic, rock, funk, and soul.

The band has performed a monthly improvisation set at Elliot Street in Atlanta, Georgia. After being long-term friends, the band noticed that they had created a new sound that is honest and original. Grüt brings elusive energy and heavy improvisation to every show.
