Ahead of him joining us for or new event 'The Groove Garage' this coming February, we thought it only right to get Andy down for the mixtape series this week.

Named a ‘stellar edits provider’ by Mixmag and the ‘nu-disco don’ by Juno, Andy Buchan has become one of the most consistent names in the disco and edit scene for the past few years with top-selling singles on Juno, festivals and gigs across the UK and consistent BBC6 Music plays.

His 2022 release ‘Reasons’ was one of the year’s biggest-selling disco tracks while his own label Hot Gorilla Records scored their own best-selling album in the summer thanks to their debut compilation.

This is just the latest chapter in Andy’s career. After freelancing for Mixmag, and launching the renowned 'Hot Gorilla Records' in 2020, he’s become a mainstay of the disco scene and we can't wait for him to join us for The Groove Garage

With both myself and co-host @gregmiddleton unavailable this week, we were delighted to welcome back our good friend, and excellent DJ and producer, Tom Whittaker aka @evenfunkier to the Feel Good Friday hot seat. He did a great job hosting the show, and welcomed our special guest this week, the amazing DJ Laurel @dj-laurel. 

Warsaw-based DJ Laurel is been spinning Soul, Funk & Disco since 2000 and has gone on to make numerous tracks and edits released on renowned labels such as Katakana Edits, Timewarp Music, Kraak Records, Act Of Sedition, Hot Digit Music, Electric Friends Music and Discoholics Anonymous, to name but a few.

As a DJ he's played at clubs and festivals across the globe including England, France, Austria, Montenegro, and USA, alongside legends such as Jazzanova, Richard Dorfmeister, Robert Luis , Florian Keller, 7 Samurai, Bonobo , Crazy P, Red Astaire, Dj Food, Nickodemus, Dj Format, Florian Keller , Dom Servini, Boca45, Scrimchire and even a B2B set with Dj Andy Smith!

Both Even Funkier and DJ Laurel delivered mighty fine sets in this superb 2 hour show. Enjoy!

HAFT, the Iranian duo of Sam Nasehi and Amir Subb, are known for fusing hypnotic synths, deep- rooted pads, and intricate percussion into a sound that bridges traditional textures with modern progressive house. Their debut three-track EP on Balance Music delivers a journey filled with psychedelic undercurrents and shimmering atmospheres that is crafted equally for the dance floor and for deep listening.

The brooding ‘Driftor’ is designed to nudge any DJ set in the right direction. An off-beat bass drives the engine, allowing you to comfortably sit in the pocket of its inviting narrative. Steely drums and percussion form a cohesive frame, while a bag of tasteful effects, samples, and stabs fill the remaining spaces. Once the breakdown hits, in all its subtlety, you know you’re in the hands of professionals. This is essential prog, designed for any occasion.

There is an undercurrent of psychedelia running through ‘Myntal’, hypnotic and consuming. Low- end frequencies double as notes, merging with the bass to create a dizzying effect. Its main-room identity, however, is confirmed by drums that strut forward with propulsive energy. It all points towards a seductive breakdown, its layering teasing a drop that confirms it: this is designed for floors ready to ignite.

Filled with depth, ‘Prism’ shimmers and shakes as synths and stabs perpetually morph. The result is a continuous stream of sonic moments to lose yourself in. Thankfully, the dense bassline and drums bring you back from the edge of hypnosis, filling the space with an elastic energy as buoyant as a trampoline. Then comes the breakdown: bells dissolve into minor-key haze, half beautiful, half surreal: an inviting dream-logic that is hard to deny.
