Neon’s heart raced as she navigated the labyrinthine alleys of Mastika’s undercity, her mind a whirlwind of fears and calculations. The neon lights above flickered, casting eerie shadows that danced along the grimy walls. Each step was a reminder of her fleeting time; every echo of distant voices heightened her anxiety.

Arriving at Dock 47, she found it eerily quiet. The usual hum of activity was missing, replaced by an unsettling silence. She scanned the area, her sharp eyes catching every detail. The docking bay was a cavernous space, its concrete floor littered with the remnants of hastily abandoned cargo. Dim lights flickered overhead, casting long shadows that seemed to shift with a life of their own.

Thorne was nowhere to be seen. Neon checked her communicator, hoping for a signal or some sign of his arrival. Nothing. The minutes ticked by, each one adding to her mounting tension. She knew better than to let her guard down, but the silence was deafening.

Just as she began to consider the possibility of a trap, a low hum filled the air. A sleek, dark ship emerged from the shadows, its hull reflecting the dim light. Neon’s breath caught in her throat. This was the Vantoth’s transport, no doubt about it. The ship’s design was unmistakable—elegant yet menacing, built for speed and stealth.

The ramp lowered, and Thorne stepped out, his figure silhouetted against the ship’s interior lights. He looked as composed as ever, though there was a glint of something unreadable in his eyes.

“Neon,” he greeted her, his voice as smooth as silk. “I see you made it on time.”

“Barely,” she replied, trying to keep her voice steady. “What’s the plan?”

Thorne gestured for her to follow him up the ramp. “We need to be quick. The authorities have already intensified their search. We’re on a tight schedule.”

As she boarded the ship, Neon couldn’t help but feel a sense of foreboding. The interior was sleek and minimalist, with advanced technology lining the walls. Thorne led her to a small, secure compartment where the Coranthium was safely stored.

“We’ll be out of Mastika’s orbit in less than an hour,” Thorne said, securing the compartment. “But there’s a catch.”

Neon’s stomach tightened. “What’s the catch?”

“The Vantoth require a favor in return for this escape,” Thorne said, his tone turning serious. “Once we’re clear, you’ll owe us a significant debt. And trust me, the Vantoth’s debts are not easily repaid.”

Neon swallowed hard. “I had a feeling there’d be a price.”

“Consider it a reminder of who’s in control,” Thorne said, his smile devoid of warmth. “But for now, focus on the escape. You’ll have time to contemplate your next move once we’re safely away from Mastika.”

As the ship’s engines roared to life, Neon felt a mixture of relief and anxiety. The stars outside the viewport began to shift as they accelerated into space, leaving the oppressive atmosphere of Mastika behind. But even as the planet receded, she knew her troubles were far from over.

With the Coranthium in her possession and a debt to the Vantoth looming over her, Neon’s future was uncertain. The galaxy was vast and unforgiving, and her escape was just the beginning of a new chapter fraught with peril.

As the ship soared into the unknown, Neon braced herself for the challenges ahead. The echoes of her past would follow her, but for now, she was free from Mastika’s grasp—at least until the Vantoth came calling.
