On ne sait si Vendredi a tiré ou non son nom du personnage que Robinson, le visage depuis trop longtemps cramé sur son île isolée, a nommé en rapport avec le jour de la semaine où il a rencontré son nouveau compagnon. Ce que l’on sait toutefois, c’est que la musique de ce duo parisien composé de deux garçons différemment cultivés (la techno des clubs pour Charles Valentin, et l’harmonie baroque pour Pierre-Elie Robert) paraît représenter la synthèse entre ces deux héros de Daniel Defoe.  C’est-à-dire la culture classique et moderne, propre à l’occidental Robinson, et le tribalisme ethnique propre à l’indigène Vendredi.

Entre Bonobo, Jon Hopkins, Mount Kimbie, Flying Lotus, Matmos, le duo fait ainsi de l’electronica tribale comme d’autres partent en conquête. Et en marge de la préparation d’un 3e EP (qui succédera au second Sola Nocte), ils nous offrent la 6e mixtape Néoprisme du siècle.

Over the past 6 years WOLF Music have earned their stripes as stalwart purveyors of refined House and Disco. Now, in the follow up to Medlar and Greymatter’s debut LPs and EPs from the likes of Ishmael, Ossie and Casino Times they ready their 3rd LP from Dutchman Frits Wentink.

Now residing in Amsterdam, Frits has a glowing back catalogue of soulful, Lo Fi club material that’s touched Heist Recordings as well as WOLF in the form of his ‘Mouse’ and ‘Goose’ EPs. With an experimental approach to hardware and instrumentation, his work blooms naturally through jams and improv and in this - his debut LP: ‘Rarely Pure, Never Simple’ we see a development in this experimentation to enlivening effect.

Working with a meld of grubby samples, chunky percussion and the frequent vocal accompaniment of Utrecht based Loes Jongerling, Rarely Pure Never Simple is a journey through Frits’ influences forged into a cohesive pack of grooves and interludes tinged with a certain charming nostalgia.
