For our sixth release, Parang Recordings is proud to present our first various artists compilation EP, featuring both emerging and established talents with a range of sounds from diverse backgrounds.
 
Lil Sorry and Lord of Leisure, both producers from Offenbach whose work has appeared on some of our favorite house labels, showcase Offenbach’s established deep house vibe with their contributions veering towards the gentle, the sublime, and the melodic. The understated dub influences in Lil Sorry’s ‘High Noon’ help to disguise its brisk tempo, further submerged by foregrounding of textured pads and wayward electronics that take center stage on this subdued groove. Lord of Leisure’s ‘Coffee N Chups’ is a sunrise house groover powered by funky bass and choppy hat and snare combos that keep the drive over sustained pads and a deep, repeating melody.
 
Shifting scenes to the UK for Manchester’s Spin Fidelity, a newly established name from releases on Barcelona’s revered Subwax, we find the toughest offering, a Detroit-inspired gem that lands solidly in the morning slot.

Rounding out the VA we have the head of London’s Rube Goldberg Series, Bowyer, who has so far remained mostly on his own imprint and is the freshest face here. His ‘Livelovelaugh’ closes the EP with its brightest offering, all melodic bassline, sunny keyboards, and worked vocal snippets with a punchline vocal at dramatic points to reinforce its uplifting demeanor.

The return of our VA series is marked with the new chapter ‘Freaky Friends Volume 1’ featuring the likes of P.Leone,
Nasty King Kurl, Sentient State, Ole Mic Odd, Dj Swagger, and Main Phase.

The Berlin-based label has been going strong since its founder - Australian DJ and producer Dj Whipr
Snipr - launched it in 2016, with recent genre-spanning releases traversing acid, house, breaks, and
electro from artists such as DJ Bowlcut, Low Tape, Soela, Subjoi, Interplanetary Criminal, J.Albert, DJ
Safeword, Anthony Fade, and many more. Nerang now invites six quality artists for its most ambitious
release yet to inaugurate the imprint’s ‘Freaky Friends’ series.
E-Missions founder and Rekids regular P.Leone leads the way with a thudding breaks number called
‘Parting Currents’. A rumbling bassline is later joined by lush pads and a hammering piano melody
destined to rocket listeners into new heights. Following appearances on 777 Recordings and Low
Income Squad, Nasty King Kurl is next with a raw sounding ‘Lawless’ - a syncopated cut that blends
acid and electro with Memphis rap and R&B.
In fine form off the back of releasing on Hilltown Disco and 99cts RCRDS, Nerang veteran Ole Mic Odd
brings a sweaty Ghetto House stomper named ‘Hydro Anthem’ complete with a gritty acid bassline and
Pointdexter-esque chopped vocals, making way for Sentient State’s ‘4 Tha Freaks’ which exhibits the
New York-based artist’s softer side as he layers lush pads on top of a stripped back electro rhythm for
pure euphoria.
With releases on Natural Sciences, Who’s Susan and E-Beamz, Germany-based producer Dj Swagger
ups the energy, clocking in with the compilation’s fastest track in a bouncing Chicago House inspired
cut entitled ‘The Phone Talky’. Tying it all together, Warehouse Raves and ec2a artist Main Phase’s ‘Get
Higher’ is a punchy UK garage track complete with thudding 909 kicks, purring bass, fluttering vocals
and rave stabs.

Viers rolls through with a unique 4-track, club oriented EP entitled ‘Innocence’ for Typeless. After some previously highly acclaimed releases, the Leeds based artist reinforces his supremacy with a fiercely diverse electronic voyage.


‘EVA00’ on the A side offers up a hybrid electro-breaks infused sound with rolling basslines and euphoric melodies, encapsulating yet to be heard futuristic club cuts. Whilst ‘Douglas Descend’ adheres to a more classically punchy techno sonic with hypnotic kicks and a protruding industrial snare. B-Side’s ‘Innocence’ is a dark bass-heavy electro track that is masterfully mind-bending. The EP is then rounded off by the warehouse inspired track entitled ‘LSD’, reminiscent of big room rave settings of the 90’s.

On his third album as Trickfinger, John Frusciante makes the jump from Acid Test to its leftfield sub-label, Avenue 66, to unleash the full scope of his vision. On She Smiles Because She Presses The Button, the legendary, LA-based cult figure, presents his most diverse yet cohesive album to date. 

Frusciante has the melodic and programming chops to jump from style to style while sounding only like himself. "Amb 21" is the welcome middle-ground between Balearic and IDM while "Brise” with its quick syncopations and rhythmic groove provide a contrasting fabric. Elsewhere, JF caroms through electro and pastoral, "intelligent" ambient. The common thread through this quixotic journey are his trademark, timeless melodies. 

For years now, Frusciante has immersed himself in machines, learning tracker programs, synths and drum machines inside and out, applying the same, tireless approach he's exhibited throughout his career. Banoffee Pies Records drop the 13th release in the original series. This VA entitled "Common Ground" is a crossover of influences from 4 artists with a selection of tracks all above 150bpm from producers of a similar generation giving a nod to their youth and early musical journeys, largely inspired by Drum & Bass and Jungle raves across the UK.

The release divided in two with a Dark A side and Light B side offering two moods of liquidity. The opening track "Class Of '92" comes from Leeds based Lisene, one half of the Space Cadets duo, with previous releases on Seven Hill Records and more. The A2 from Bristol based Hartta offers a more spooked bass heavy cut with "Hauntology".

The B side begins with title track "Common Ground", an ode to dusted jungle and liquid drum & bass from another Leeds head Sourpuss, known for running the Stretchy Dance Supply parties. The last track on the disc "Vapour" comes from Manchester's Interplanetary Criminal. With his UKG EP "Move Tools" on BP010 landing on the label and many dance floors at the end of 2019, this nostalgic drum scattered jungle cut stylishly closes off the compilation. Limited Press.
