Violinist, singer, and composer Kishi Bashi is slated to release his new album on May 13, 2014. The album entitled "Lighght" (pronounced "Light") continues and expands the sound of his critically acclaimed debut, "151a" - which earned Kishi Bashi the title of "Best New Artist" by NPR. Since the profoundly successful release of "151a" two years ago, Kishi Bashi has toured relentlessly, captivating audiences across the globe with his loop-based live show, and fostering a groundswell of devotees. 

"151a" was crafted over a four-year period while Kishi Bashi was touring and recording with Regina Spektor, Sondre Lerche, and of Montreal (where he was a full-time member and co-producer). In late 2012, after the success of "151a", Kishi Bashi decided to focus solely on his own music and began composing the new material which has become "Lighght".

"Lighght" takes its title from the one-word poem by minimalist poet Aram Saroyan. As Kishi Bashi explains, "The poem's blatant assault on literary convention and classical form was attractive to me." It is apparent that such an approach informed the new album, which has both broadened and redefined his classical foundations. "Though I have studied classical composition, I prefer to take an unconventional path when it comes to creating and thinking about music," says Kishi Bashi. 

Though violin remains his primary instrument and songwriting muse, Kishi Bashi has expanded his palette to include more diverse and nuanced instrumentation. Bright and soaring avant-pop songs are prevalent, as are Eastern-tinged arrangements, gentle ballads, Philip Glass inspired improvisations, and more than a few moments that flirt with 70s prog (in the tradition of ELO or Yes). 

If this sounds jarringly kaleidoscopic, that's because it is. But it works. Listen and see.

The overall mood although a depressing topic, seems to speak out in a comforting way. It is meant to soothe the anxious souls who are afraid of the unknown. Essentially the title says it all. For “Fear no more” is meant to be read in a way that that the one being spoken to would be relieved.

Shakespeare's play Cymbeline was written in 1608 or 1609, when the playwright was in his mid-forties. It is famous for having an excruciatingly complicated plot. The joke used to be that theater managers ought to offer cash prizes to anyone who, after watching the play, could explain what had happened. Cymbeline is a wonderful play, if you pay attention, and it does have this beautiful funeral song in Act IV.

The song is sung (and in most productions it actually is sung, though the music used in Shakespeare's time has been lost,
there use to be new music written for this song when the play is set up again around the world)

The song is by two boys over the dead body of another boy. They have just buried this boy; or rather, since neither the plot not the realities of stage performance allow for burial, they have laid him out and scattered flowers and herbs on him. As a matter of fact, the dead boy is neither dead, nor a boy. The "corpse" is that of Imogen, daughter of the king of Britain.

She is dressed in male attire only because she is traveling incognito. Feeling ill while a guest of these two boys and her father, she took some medicine her stepmother had given her when she set out. The stepmother is, naturally, wicked, and believes the potion to be lethal. In fact it is only a sleeping draught. Imogen eventually wakes up to find herself lying next to the body of her step-brother, which she mistakenly supposes is that of her husband … Well, this is a plot ...

"Tin Man" starts out 'normally enough': acoustic guitar with vocals like bad Neil Young (slightly cheesy synthy stuff in background)...then, it moves somewhere quite distantly "electronic" and never quite makes it back. Its gotten some play on 89.5 FM WPKN, Bridgeport CT, USA, on Rod Richardson's show "Radio Nothing", so that's a huge honor. Its been described as "...Nick Drake meets Neil Young" drunk...on a bad day
