String Theory

Music is a refuge in life. 

Never imagined I could put an noob set like this one online. 

I grew up with the walkman being invented, then discman, mp3 player (the ones with 128 mb!)and then my first external speaker on battery..I always played music everywhere I went. I even tried the first software for making music, but I never followed through. In my 20s I played songs on house-parties. I used twoyoutubevideosandamotherfuckingcrossfader to mix them, because I didn't know any better. I never thought about DJ-ing on an 'actual machine' that was made for it. 

Until a year ago, when I got inspired by some amazing souls. One in particular, you know who you are. And here it is, my first DJ set. Recorded at home, after an inspirational weekend in Paris with lovely souls who love music. Who inspired me to just do it. 

Thanks to the artists who made these beautiful songs. I hope you give them credit by buying their music when inspired.

What is music? According to Arnold Sokhor, it “reflects the reality and affects the person through meaningful and specially organized sound sequences, consisting essentially of tones.” Well, yes, a lot of such definitions could explain what that form of art means. Let’s paraphrase the question then. What is music for? Everyone should find their own formula but never try to put it into words. Ever since @scrounger sent his podcast several weeks ago, it has aroused so many different emotions and sentiments in so many different places. This music definitely wasn’t meant for one thing only. And that’s perhaps what music is. It becomes a part of life without even asking, making what we see and what we feel brighter and more vivid. All we have to do then is to get comfy and enjoy ourselves. Music will do the rest.

It has been a very intense year for me, working as a nurse during a pandemic has been very challenging. Born as a Person of Color (PoC) in Europe, means that the majority of society seems to has its place for you. The worldwide #BLM movements and demonstrations in 2020, had a major impact on all of us. Music has helped me to heal and deal with many things. In music I find joy and friendship which I am missing now. In times of multiple Lockdowns, I have digged myself into Piano, music theory, mixing beatmatching and Djing. Thanks to my family, friends and to life..here some healing and earthy sounds to groove with!
