Birthed from the reverberating hymns of Europe's rave scene, Kansas-born, Brooklyn-based DJ, @Sekucci, discovered rave culture parading around Paris, London, and Berlin's most prominent nightlife functions and venues. Entranced need with curiosity of a sound unfamiliar to them at the time, they returned to the United States fully invested in the culture later to be encouraged by fellow ravers, party promoters, & DJs to pursue their own endeavors with the craft. @Sekucci’s sets have been described as genre-bending - enriched with high energy, intention, pulsating percussive elements, & chaotic blends all deeply rooted in emotion & introspection that is certain to take the listener on an audible journey they won't forget.

COOKIE MIX #064: SEKUCCI

This mix I made at the end of 2022. I felt like this was something that really summarized the last year of loving and appreciating myself. Really understanding my needs and prioritizing what I consider self nourishment to be. Self-restoration is needed to restore and love others. I incorporated some of my favorite tracks from 2022 along with some blends that got me through the year.  The mix is full of energy throughout its entirety  with variations of genres that evoke the body to move. When you take a listen, you’re gonna feel strong, sexy, groovy, and sensual to say the least.  I chose one of my favorite portraits taken at the beginning of last year by none other than Julian Camilo

JOSELO is a Puerto Rican, New York-based visual artist, DJ and nightlife producer with expansive taste and vision. In 2014, he created Maricón to fill a void within the Latinx community and celebrate collective identity. The party showcases QTPOC DJs and creatives and links disparate scenes across the city’s boroughs. On the decks, Joselo is omnivorous and cross-cultural. He merges eclectic styles such as techno, trance, house, reggaeton, dembo and baile funk.

NOCTURNAL EMISSIONS is a trippy mix-mash of house, techno and trance with Latin / tribal influence; a distorted, sound-bending, mind-fuck that will leave you suspended with the vibrations of the night.

The title for this mix is ‘Cipactli’. 

It was believed that only water was present in the beginning. Earth wasn’t created until a large sea demon Cipactli was destroyed - a primeval sea monster, part crocodilian, part fish, and part toad, with indefinite gender. Being the source of the cosmos, Cipactli had an insatiable appetite, and each joint of the creature bore a mouth. They pulled Cipactli’s body in four directions and freed the universe from its body. The creature’s head became the thirteen heavens, its tail the underworld, its midsection the Earth, and so on. The primordial creator and god of fertility and new beginnings.
