As Selador reaches it’s 3rd birthday, co-founder Steve Parry makes his artist debut for the label with a track that’s set to elevate his status to the next level. 

Following up the recent success of his massive ‘Flippant’ track on Bedrock should not have been an easy task but Steve has effortlessly created another accomplished peak time anthem that has already sent tongues-a-wagging amongst the lucky few who’ve managed to get their hands on a copy. 

Whereas ‘Flippant’ was most definitely an ode to his love of authentic acid house, ‘Apricity’ shows off his melodic side with it’s arptastic lead synth doing most of the damage atop a pulsating bass and roof raising arrangement. 

On the remix front, Brazilian Techno Maestro, Victor Ruiz, Portuguese Tech House grandee, Joal and the latest house music poster boys, Ki Creighton & Makanan all out-do themselves making for a package so fierce, it registers on the richter scale.

Selador boss man (job share) Steve Parry is turning 50. Hard to believe when you look at the man's effervescence and energy as he juggles Selador with regular high level gigs, his bespoke promo company SMP3, and of course his blossoming studio exploits.

A true solider of the scene, Steve has dedicated his adult life to club culture, and his abiding passion of discovering and sharing new music, be it from behind the counter at the legendary 3 Beat record store, behind the decks playing at the equally legendary Cream, and as both promoter and resident DJ at cult 00s night Alderaan (all in his home town of Liverpool).

He has long sourced tunes for some of the very biggest DJs (initially via vinyl packages sent from 3 Beat, but quickly adapting to a digital service), and SMP3 has worked with many key labels including Sudbeat, Bedrock, Lost and Found, Frau Blau and Renaissance. Steve's knowledge and enthusiasm remain undimmed.

The advent of Selador has also given Steve a natural home for his finely crafted productions (bar a couple of exceptions which John Digweed nabbed for Bedrock) - and to celebrate this big birthday milestone, we've invited three of Steve's favourite producers to remix three of his previous Seladorian gems.

Talking of soldiers of the scene, Doc Martin, the much-loved globetrotting, genre straddling DJ, takes Steve's paean to the Liverpool club night, maintains the original's addictive squelchiness, while going for a hypnotically funky workout.

What You Make It remixed by Renato Cohen

Selador favourite Renato Cohen from Brazil keeps the peak time spirit of last year's What You Make It very much intact but adds his own inimitable twist to proceedings. Bass face!

Fenner remixed by Bebetta

Completing our titanic trio, Berlin's creative powerhouse Bebetta takes Steve's evergreen Fenner and wraps its inescapable vocal hook in a dreamy techno blanket. Gorgeous.

From Burning Man to Panorama Bar, Panthera Krause knows how to energise and elevate the most demanding, knowledgeable dancefloors. He is, of course, equally adept in the studio, be it as part of Marbert Rocel, who enjoyed a long and fruitful partnership with the mighty Compost label; or now focusing on solo projects and his esteemed Riotvan label, all from his base in one of Germany’s most vibrant cities, Leipzig.

All of which, natch, means we are beyond delighted to have him debut on Selador. The beneficiary of Panthera’s craft is none other than our very own Steve Parry. With new tune ‘Turn Up the Juice’ already hailed as an “anthem” by Hot Since 82, the juice gets turned up a few notches more with this bodyslammer of a remix.

Our man Panthera remains true to the spirit of Steve’s original but goes darker with a late 90s / early 00s vibe with whip cracker percussion, dirty synths, and the opulent vocal hook all aiding and abetting this unabashed act of grand dancefloor larceny.

With ‘We All Heart’ we welcome back Hungarian Robert R.Hardy to the label. Robert’s original kicks things off nicely with its melancholic moodiness shining through as we meander effortlessly through club inspired melodies, while the sultry chords sit wonderfully on top adding an extra layer of depth. The track continues to build on a solid foundation of tough percussive grooves and bass-lines. ‘We All Heart’ is an accomplished piece of work that highlights, that Robert R.Hardy is a true master of his craft.

First up we have a remix courtesy of Berlin based Joal, known for his polished and intricate sound profiling, who keeps the ethereal theme of the original alive, as the pulsating bass powers along, before its drum fills and general warmth all combine to do the talking. Like something from yesteryear, yet sounding fresh and upfront - This mystical touch up takes the energy levels up a notch, but increases the melancholy with stripped back and lucid elements at the same time, before the luscious pads grace the rework changing the vibe and creating a blanket of warmth that wraps around the effected groove. ‘Essential stuff’!

Diogo Ribeiro, famed for his intricate and refined productions created a rework full of tension from the word go, as the atmospheric vibe subtly keeps you moving with warm tinkling sounds, a smooth edge and some nicely effected sounding pieces. We basically have the formula for a bit of a monumental outing. The sparseness is the key here, as this restrained gem works its magic while it plays away, creating a warm glow, creating an air of sophistication. 

Last but not least, we have a remix courtesy of label alumni Artem Kalalb who delivers a trademark kicking mix with infectious chords, intense drums and smooth breakdown. It's all about the groove, cool house vibes and the driving beats that are working their magic around Artem's wonderfully arranged keys that create an irresistible rhythm while clever chords take the mind on a trip.

Robert R.Hardy’s ‘We All Heart’ is a true dance-floor monster, in every sense of the word. Another essential release from ICONYC aimed straight at the soul, be ready to dance to it! ‘Few All Heart’ will see the light of day on November 27th, 2017. Miss this at your peril!!

We don’t know much about Len, but we do know that his tracks have been turning heads since 2017 and that his DJing is second-to-none which is why he rakes in the bookings around Berlin. Great to have him on board and we hope to hear more from him in the future.

Our Portuguese friend Joal is up on remix duties and once again he shows us his deft skills in the studio with a superb interpretation of The Tale Of Tones. Known for his diverse style, Joal has a long dedication to production which has propelled him to international acclaim. This boom of musicality led to a steady stream of gigs where his performances are not just DJ Sets, but fusions between DJing and live act, where creativity is his brand image. An extensive back catalogue and a solid fan base are testament to the talent from this guy and we’re delighted to see him back at Monog. On the remix here, Joal delivers a much deeper interpretation with a tight, tough-edged beat at the core. Keeping the groove in the lower echelons, we also have a superb, probing bassline that mesmerizes alongside eerie FX sequences. On the break, expertly crafted melodies rise out of the murk before we’re thrust right back into full-on mode with a tribal twist. Excellent stuff, not to be missed.

If truth be told, we’ve been pestering James’ Made By Pete’ Edwards to create his own EP for Selador ever since he first appeared on the label last summer on remix duties for Dee Montero’s ‘Fade Into Noir’, so naturally we’re pleased as punch to be charged with the guardianship of this fantastic release.

The burgeoning producer has been taking giant strides over the past few years with releases for such esteemed labels as Crosstown Rebels, Yoshitoshi, Radiant and Gruuv and with his newly built studio now fully operational, 2020 is shaping up to be his most prolific yet.

Here he delivers 3 tracks of equally high calibre, each providing a different twist on the Made By Pete sound. For the title track, the vocal talents of Simon Jinadu are enlisted, who turns in a spellbinding performance that succeeds in full-blown listener entrapment, such is its seductive charm. Sheer, timeless class all round.

Next, ‘Sierra’ brings a more present-day feel to proceedings with a glitchy melody and tight tribal rhythms flaunting its finger-on-the-pulse credentials. And finally, the Afro flavours come further to the fore in ‘Rhythm Fabric’, a carefully woven percussive tapestry that delivers in spades.

Canadian producer Jake Fairley, aka Fairmont then masterfully returns service with a thunderous outright winner of a remix. Cranking up the wonkiness to 11 and parading it’s muscle like one of Joe Exotic’s prowling tigers. Proper bad boy.

And finally Mexican starlet Theus Mago takes the third set, bringing his deft touch into play with a cleverly crafted take. Adding a little Spanish flair and a culture clash of influences, this one hits you where it hurts. New balls please!
