Completing the ‘World’ trilogy of releases, ‘This World Is Lost EP’ is the eighth release on Codename: RCRDS, the new label from Southampton-based jungle, 160 and atmospheric crew Codename: Amen.  The release and label channel the energy of the 90’s rave era, pushing the sound forward into exciting new directions for 2023. 

The unique Cold Leader returns to the label with the bouncy ‘Universal Rules’, an instant dancefloor classic which has been on heavy rotation at Codename: Amen events for several months now.  Things shift in a darker direction with Code Of Silence’s ‘High Riser’, where driving beats meet eerie pads, stabs and drones for an awesome slice of ’93 influenced darkcore.

Rising talent Worsleyy keeps us firmly in breakbeat hardcore territory with ‘Sandy Rain’, reaching a crescendo at the mid point with atmospheric pads before dropping back into tearing breaks and bell tones.  The EP closes with another fast rising new star of the scene, Arkyn, who contributes the Jungle Techno stomper ‘Lost City’, switching brilliantly between deeper reflective moments and all-out amen assaults.

For the last month or so I've taken a break from Soundcloud. What have I been doing? I'll tell you. Selecting breaks from old funk tunes, pitching them up to around 160 bpm, chopping them up, looping and then adding bits of rare groove, soul, ragga and pretty much anything else I can find, and piecing it all together manually in real-time on my phone. 
I reckon this might catch on ;)

Lolz aside. From the bottom of my heart, massive respect to every one of the pioneers that made this journey into the unknown for real 25-plus years ago, and defined the sound of a generation. 

By way of a taster for Eclectic Mix Part III, here's my VIP take on 'Heavenly Body'. I have an enduring love of Dextrous/Kings Of The Jungle releases, they combined the rough with the smooth in such a distinctive way. I hope this is a fitting tribute :)

Home of my own mixes - predominantly jungle/hardcore with the odd bit of D&B, plus eclectic sample-digging, breaks and hip-hop, techno & electronica. 

Pre-2001, all mixes vinyl; Post-2016, all mixes digital (DJay 2); Post-2018, Ableton Live. Why? Why not?
I've got an old skool DJ's mentality, early influences ranging from Sublove, Ratty, Randall & Hype to Coldcut, DJ Juice, MK & Primo.  In the early 00s I turned my back on D&B, retired my turntables in favour of family/work commitments, and got into funk, soul, reggae and so on... a lot of this driven by curiosity around the sample roots of hardcore and jungle.  Forward another decade and an early mid-life crisis saw me messing around with virtual decks on my phone, and later acquiring a vinyl ripper, with one vision in mind: making mixes.
Although I'm partial to the odd DJay or vinyl mix when I get the chance, the progression into Ableton Live was a simple means to an end.  My ideas stretch further than the limitations of my physical collection and real-time mixing, and by sequencing I can pick, choose, chip away and structure mixes at my leisure. Which I do... a lot :)

Wait, there's more ... an absolute stack of classic golden era/old skool hip-hop/turntablism, jungle and d&b, hardcore, techno and house mixes retrieved from my dusty tape & CD archives.  This includes (by my reckoning) the most exhaustive collections of classic Full Cycle and Sublove Galaxy Radio shows, live Ruffneck Ting jungle tapes, loads of studio & compilation mixes, all manner of rave tapes, and so on.
