The Swing Phenomenon
Si certains se demandent d’où vient le nom de la chanson, c’est tout simplement le titre d’un classique de la house par Armand Van Helden, The Funk Phenomena. Nous voulions à notre manière reprendre l’idée de ce classique de la house et y mettre notre petite touche. D’ailleurs dans le remix de Dj Mibor on entend clairement Swing Phenomena dans les parties masculines utilisées pour le remix. La chanson décrit plus ou moins notre premier contact avec le swing lors d’une soirée au Divan du Monde. Un souffle de joie et de bonne humeur! Ce fut notre première collaboration avec Nicolle Rochelle que nous avions admirée dans le rôle de Joséphine Baker dans la Comédie Musicale de Jérôme Savary à l’Opéra Comique. Dire que nous lui avions envoyé un petit message de félicitations sur son myspace à l’époque…. Le temps passe si vite !

If you’ve ever wondered where the title of this track comes from, it was a joke we  played fashioned on the Armand Van Helden epic title "The Fink Phenomena". We wanted to pay a tribute to the house culture and keep all this in a swing spirit. The song, in a way, tells of our first contact with the swing community when we attended our first swing party. We were blasted by the energy and the good mood, which just begged to be told in a track. This is also the first track of a long-lasting collaboration with Nicolle Rochelle, who we had seen performing as Josephine Baker in the Jérôme Savary musical that was a triumph on the Parisian stage.

'Wind Up' sees Reset! team up with legendary Jamaican ragga MC Daddy Freddy -- a seminal player in integrating Jamaican vocals into electronic music (and 4 times breaker of the record for world's fastest rapper!). The infectious ragga party anthem is accompanied by an awesome leftfield video shot in Los Angeles by female Italian director Spaghetto. It features a 2 very contrasting Compton Barbeque parties being very literally crashed by a giant (cuddly) spider who has just accidentally killed a unicorn. No, we don't totally understand it either, but we suspect there may be undercurrents of the battle between the ways of good and evil. Make your own mind up!

The flip side track 'Escape' sees Reset! in more exploratory mood taking their Turbofunk stylings on a cross-genre multi-tempo journey that takes in elements of Hip Hop, Acid, ItaloDisco and Jazz while not losing sight of its core anthemic synth hook.

"Dubstep may have a monopoly on wobble, but Tom Demac strikes back on "Critical Distance Pt. 2," a surly brawler of a house track whose shuddering low end recalls Azzido da Bass' 1999 anthem "Doom's Night." It kicks off relatively demurely, with a crisp, shuffling drum groove fleshed out with tuned toms and watery string pads. But that melancholy restraint gives way to something far more primal. That bass has something to do with it, poised somewhere between foghorn blast and the bellow of a wooly mammoth, and a yowling vocal melody drives home the track's essential animal nature—cornered, wounded, and entirely unconcerned with niceties like prettiness and pitch. To the contrary, the way the voice slides between the notes only adds to the drama, reinforcing the sense of being sucked down in quicksand.

That said, it would have been nice to have an instrumental version, for those occasions when you're not feeling quite so Bronze Age hunting-party, although Hrdvsion's remix also does the trick. He keeps his interventions minimal, removing the vocal and giving the drums a faintly garage-y re-shuffle. It's still plenty ominous, suffused in rolling war drums and distant banshee wail."

Welp, since everyone else is doing it. Here's a mash-up of the Re-Wiff of "I Got Soul" with Ini Kamoze's classic "Here Comes The Hotstepper". Initially, I tried to do it with the original track but it wasn't happening. It was weird tempo-wise and there were some heavy key-clashing. Then I pulled up the Re-Wiff and after sped it up quite a bit and placed the vocals "Hotstepper" on top this piece of magic appeared. After a few adjustments and edits, it was a done deal.

At first, I wasn't going to upload it but I did it anyway. The final push was Skeewiff's own mashing of "I Got Soul" & the classic "Land Of 1000 Dances". From which "Hotstepper" borrows it's "Na Na Na"-hook from.

Big up to Skeewiff and all of the musicians involved in the Re-Wiffed version and Ini Kamoze & Salaam Remi.

Continuing the trend of breaking new artists, Klasse Recordings returns with a fresh new EP from equally fresh new artists. FJAAK are a three-piece production and DJ outfit hailing from Berlin. Young and full of energy these newcomers turn in a stunningly original and well-crafted EP that is well beyond their years.

The Remember Me EP kicks off with its title track, an all analogue journey into a trippy underworld of arpeggio basslines and wonky pads. Robotic voices boldly repeat refrains whilst synths fight for space over a cantankerous groove. The track drops twice with great effect, making a great use of space and suspense.

Small Gadget heads towards darker territories, sitting somewhere in between House, Techno and UK Rhythms the track builds itself around a huge pulsing bassline. Minimal in its construction, Small Gadget's strength lies in its functionality and those spaces inbetween the sounds. This is a guaranteed dancefloor destroyer.

Seven Miles High is the deepest of the three originals, warm pads and dreamy stabs create an intro that effortlessly transports the listener to a lowdown and nasty bassline. FJAAK once again utilize broken beats and off-kilter rhythms to their advantage, the resulting track is a fantastic mix of deep, raw and groovy elements.

It is with great pleasure that we welcome Clone Recordings regular Arttu to Klasse. The now Berlin-based Fin turns in two remixes for the Remember Me EP. Remix Number One is a blistering and fuzzy trip into the mind of Arttu and his synthetic friends, a detuned melody repeats over playful drum machine grooves whilst the original pads sit over the track. Remix Number One is available only on the KLS026 vinyl.

Arttu's Remix Number Two is a different beast altogether, aimed squarely at a deranged dancefloor somewhere in the future the track relies on the original's hooky melody. Arttu takes the original parts and mangles them together with distortion and hiss, shuffling snares and random hi hats create a manic groove that only the loosest can get down to.

Second up for the remix team is American producer and WT Records owner Willie Burns, Mr. Burns' work has recently been showcased on L.I.E.S, Clone and Trilogy Tapes and we're very lucky to have him on board for KLS026. Sounding like a long-forgotten Italo-Electro-EBM crossover hit, Willie Burns' re-works the arpeggios and vocals into a much darker and spooky direction....direct and straight to the point, the remix wastes no time getting stuck into the thick of it.

This one has been getting asses shaking in my sets since I started playing around with the component parts, Now (at Version 8) I'm putting it out there for you to cast a discerning ear over.

Taking a well known vocal from the http://soundcloud.com/jurassic-5 track "What's Golden"
and combining it with an instrumental cut http://soundcloud.com/musicbysoulrebel/wicked-dub-big-g-and-django 
and reworked with a touch of Titan Sound special sauce.
