Most 6 year olds mark their birthday by drinking too much fizzy drink, eating too much cake and having a party. Well Data Transmission is slightly different to most other 6 year old although we will be having a party to celebrate reaching the milestone and guess what? You’re invited.

Yes, this February 22nd we’ll be teaming up with our good friends over at seminal London clubbing institution Ministry Of Sound to take over 103 and celebrate 6 years at the vanguard of electronic music with some very special guests.

The night sees French superstar Cedric Gervais land in London for his debut appearance at Ministry of Sound who recently took home the golden gramophone for Best Remixed Recording for his remix of Lana Del Rey’s “Summertime Sadness", beating off competition from the likes of Alesso, Photek and Sultan & Ned Shepard.

Also sitting on the bill are WolfPack, a hot new duo who smashed 2013 and will also be making their much anticipated debut in SE1. Tim Mason and resident Tim Cullen round off the billing in The Box whilst over in 103, we welcome the sounds of DT favorites Electronic Youth, Lawrence Daffurn & Jason Hodges, Daniel Leese and our very own Data Transmission DJs

6th Birthday Mix : Jay Hodges

For this week’s podcast we headed north to secure the talents of one of 2013’s break though stars in Denney. 

Hailing from the North East of England, this fresh talent cut his teeth at the best of northern club nights, before spreading his wings - and his love for music and life - literally across the world.

2012 first saw Denney  grab the attention of the the house music fraternity with his track ‘Ultraviolet’ selected for the Hot Creations Paradise Summer Sampler. The track set dancefloors alight - it sat comfortably at Number 1 in the bestselling vinyl chart on Juno and gained DJ support from the likes of Sasha, Damian Lazarus, Seth Troxler, and MANDY. A momentum building summer then followed with Denney playing for Hot Creations at the infamous DC10 in Ibiza across the warmer months.
Going on to release on many of the scenes most respected labels,  with imprints such as Saved Records, Great Stuff, 20:20 Vision, Leftroom and Bulletdodge all releasing his work in recent times..
 Whilst Ultraviolet showcased Denney’s distinctly unique blend of house and techno it has been his DJ sets that have probably best represented the sound he has pioneered and crafted over the years as he played alongside some of the world’s biggest names,. Whether playing a warm up or main room set, the standard and love are always clear to see and we were keen to bring  his warm, if a little warped style to the DT podcast!

Select Kuts Volume 2 : SOMEJERK

Co-founder of Phyla Digital, a label pushing innovative bass music and known for his unique take on footwork, Iyer co-founded the label in 2012 with a friend. 

1. Tell us about Phyla, how it started and why you made it happen. 

I co founded Phyla with my friend Harv back in 2012 (we are partners) when I felt there was no way for Singaporean music producers to release their quality electronic music output to the world. Our focus is Singapore but our sound is worldwide and universal. Essentially it was to get some world ears on Singaporean music, but also it's an imprint that doesn't have a specific sound necessarily - we embrace the idea of FREEFORM, where anything goes.


2. Your production reflects a diverse influence of music, what would you say has motivated you to make what you make?

I cut my teeth as a drum and bass DJ (again in Singapore). The diversity comes from the benefit of having such a range of music to listen to in part thanks to the internet. The FREEFORM ideology contributes to the exploration of other styles of electronic music as well. I guess it's kind of natural DJ instinct to cover many a style - that part still remains in me.

3. What do you have going on in the near future that we should know about? 

Releases - we've got a few lined up, but nothing we can definitely speak about. Do look out, however, for a great EP from a Canadian producer early April. For the rest of the year we will keep doing events and releases are planned and in progress but the best way to find out about anything is to follow our Facebook or SoundCloud page.

As for me personally, I've finished up almost 2 EPs worth of material (for now) so we shall see what happens with that soon.

4. Phyla is turning 3 years old, what's in store for the future?

3 years, wow, can't believe it. There's still a lot more to do. Word is finally spreading throughout the little island of Singapore. My basis in Toronto means there is some North American awareness of this imprint and what it stands for, not to mention the outstanding support I've seen for it. We've got to keep our head down, retain our focus, and do what we do best - curate and release music and help bring our fellow Singaporean producers onto the world stage while representing world music as well. Frankly, we couldn't be in a better place right now. I'm very happy with our progress and we will keep working hard.
