Pasteelo Mixtape 19 - Contemporary Soul // Dj Universe

A little over a year go, we got our hands on the mysterious slab of vinyl known as 22a #001 and instantly fell in love with the lo-fi, woozy and organic sounds of London’s 22a Music crew.

Although the members of the 22a collective (Henry Wu, Tenderlonious, Mo Kolours, Al Dobson Jr., Jeen Bassa, Reginald Omas Mammode IV) run some solo projects outside of the label it’s pretty incredible to hear how complementary all of their productions or mixes. A crew of musical kindred spirits no doubt!

A couple months ago we received a brilliant guest mix from Henry Wu (check it!) and we’re thrilled to be getting another one from the @22amusic crew: @JeenBassa

The set I did for my "weekly DJ mix" contribution on P3 Ruben's show on NRK P3. He asked me to do a danceable mix, and I wanted to do something modern & electronic. I don't usually do modern & electronic, but when I do - it sounds like this. Threw in a few boogie rarities also of course. Mixed styles, oldest song from 1984, three brand new songs from 2015. Everything else is somewhere in between.

In January 2020 the party and mix tape series “Selectricity” started in the legendary Roxy Club in Cologne.

On the occasion of the Black History Month 2022, the mixtape series „Selectricity“ collaborated with „Decolonize Cologne“, an initiative founded by three historians, enriching their work with a musical debate among Black DJ’s and Artists.

Since then, the collaboration exists. For more to come. . .
