Victor Velasco, aka Selekta Fuzz, is a multi-instrumentalist music producer and DJ bringing his own stylings of drum ’n’ bass and jungle to his home base of central New Jersey. Self-proclaimed, “loneliest and only junglist in New Jersey,” Victor started his musical journey on the violin at the age of four, propelling him down a decade-long path of classical training and eventual rebellion from said classical training. 

Through disparate instances of exposure to electronic music, adolescent Victor found himself hooked. On a family trip to Spain, his cousins introduced him to the cool stuff they were into at the time: house, trance, and makina (a Spanish variant of techno/hardcore). The now-defunct radio station, 92.3 K-Rock started broadcasting electronic music late nights on Friday. Also, video games had sick beats. Shoutout to the 1080 Snowboarding soundtrack. Looking to learn more about the music and culture, young Victor took to the early internet of the late 90’s and discovered the elusive yet familiar sound he had been searching for the whole time: jungle and drum ’n’ bass. Victor’s infatuation with drum ’n’ bass developed in alignment with his deepening curiosity for hip-hop, punk, and music technology. Throughout his teenage years, he could be found frequenting the local record shop, scouring the budget electronic CD section for anything remotely familiar, and desperately trying to get his friends into the music he loved.

Of course, as a musician, Victor felt a personal duty to try his hand at making his own electronic music and picked up a copy of Sonic Foundry Acid Music 2.0 for $60 from his local Best Buy. Not content with using the included loop libraries, he downloaded the Fruity Loops 2 demo and began designing his own sounds. Selekta Fuzz would then spend the next 20 years wandering the rabbit-hole of digital audio production, studying music technology at Oberlin Conservatory, and learning on his own through books and manuals. Taking inspiration from the DIY culture, he developed a vertically-integrated approach, personally handling every step of production, from sound design and arrangement to mixing and mastering. He strongly emphasizes variety in music from track to track, just as likely to drop a dance floor banger as he is to craft something more relaxed and thoughtful.

He has released projects with underground labels and collectives including Outlet Records in San Francisco, Ravertooth Tiger in Seattle, Trenton's very own Nova Noise, as well as a track featured on Kniteforce Records' "Ghoul Skool III." He is currently releasing music through DJ Yentalbeats' Stay Gold Records NYC.
