For this one we're glad to introduce a great music selector, DOC, who honoured us with a deep full vinyl selection.

DOC's selections are conceived as a psychedelic adventure, taking ingredients of techno, ambient, dub, and anything thats fits into his concept of deep and hypnotic. 
His monthly podcast "Selene Series", out each full moon, is a good taste of what his sound has to offer. As a producer he journeys the depths of modular sounds from his studio in Amsterdam.

Lovely vibing atmospheres, introspective melodies and clean blends are to be expected from this trippy selection, in which the artist displays his curation skills and a great trance evolution through out the mix.

May's full moon, known as the flower moon, blossoms in the sky. A total lunar eclipse happens at the same time. A sign of an eventful period. It has been eventful for us too since Selene Series has relocated to a new home base: Amsterdam. But this change has not stopped us from sharing a new ritual with you in the form of the 21st episode of Selene Series. For this installment we share a special recording of a session performed a year ago during the pandemic. A live recording of a DJ set, full of 'Selene classics'.. and the first session we share that has not been specifically recorded to be part of this series. Spontaneous, raw, unscripted... but as always deep, hypnotic and psychedelic.

Selene Series 025

June's Strawberry moon lights up the sky and brings the 22nd chapter of Selene Series.
There is no denying that deep and hypnotic techno often draws inspiration from natural elements. Underwater, Ice, Sky and Universe... and of course, the Forest. Forests are, of all these places, the easier ones to throw a party in and also probably the most familiar and closer to us. For our new episode, we made a selection of songs inspired by 'forestal sounds' to take you on a psychedelic trip through nature. Expect birds chirping, leaves rustling, tribal drums, and organic soundscapes.

Selene Series 022

We wrap up the second season of Selene Series with a breaksy mix of the most experimental, psychedelic, and deep music. For our 24th episode, we collected some of our most leftfield tracks and those 'impossible to mix' jams and took some risks. The result is our most unclassifiable selection, ranging from 122 to 140 bpm, going from ambient to drum and bass, jungle, techno, house, and whatever you want to call it.

The second ritual of the season arrives with the Beaver moon, November's full moon. The term 'organic' has become a bit of a cliche, particularly when applied to the genres of deep electronica we love in our series. But we promise we have gone the extra mile to bring what we consider an organic sound to our latest mix. Organic can be nature, water, leaves, and that sound of field recordings... but it can also be an eerie, cold, and 'void' sound. With this mix, we tried to capture all the faces of the sounds of nature.

October's full moon announces the arrival of autumn, and as nature changes its colors, we at Selene Series change our image and present you with our new look for our third season. To start our third year of mixes we compiled a very special selection to pay tribute to one of our biggest musical inspirations: the sounds of Japan.
The country of the rising sun is an endless fountain of the sounds that we can find in this series' rituals: from the most mental ambient to the best samples of psychedelic techno. There has always been particular attention to detail, perfection of minimalism, and connection to nature when it comes to Japanese electronic sounds. In this chapter's mix, we journey through a collection of tracks by Japanese or Japan-based artists that we love, that hugely inspired our sound and that we deeply admire.

The Snow Moon ascends once again and glows high in the sky. This is the call for Selene Series to come back with another musical trip to soundtrack the full moon's journey through the sky. This ritual marks the 30th chapter of our Series, and we celebrate it with a selection that represents what 'Selene Series' is most known for: deep, dubby, and hypnotic techno.

Selene Series 030

March marks the start of spring. Plants bloom, colors fill nature, and nights are noticeably shorter. The spell of the full moon also brought us a reminder: in less than a month's time we will be dancing under its magic at Mostra Festival, for us a special one: the first festival of the year, in our hometown, with an unbeatable location, atmosphere and selection of artists. The 31st episode of Selene Series brings you a mix of songs by artists that will perform at this year's edition (like we did last year). We tried to capture in just over an hour the essence of the sound that will be displayed at Mostra, from ambient, to downtempo to deep and hypnotic techno and everything or anything in between.

Selene Series 034

Our 35th episode arrives with July's full moon and with a thought to reflect upon. Inspired by some wise words from a video, we approached this mix with a gardener's mindset, instead of an architect's mindset. 

"Before laying down the first brick the architect knows the exact dimension of the house, the size of each room, and the materials they will use to pave the floor, the roof, the walls... on the other hand, creating with the mindset of the gardener, means planting a seed and simply watering it. The gardener cannot control exactly how a plant will grow, when it will choose to bloom, or what the colors will be. The gardener's responsibility is to stay persistent, to keep watering the plant so that the plant does not die. And eventually one day, the gardener will decide that the plant is beautiful enough for others to come and see it."

It's ok if things are not perfect. It's ok if, right now, not everything is ok. Be persistent. Keep watering the plant. 

For this mix, we selected some songs that we love, with no expectations, open to surprises... and we trusted in the water. The result is a mix of breaksy, psychedelic, and deep music that was healing for us to mix.

For our 36th ritual of Selene Series we went back to basics. We bring dancefloor energy with a mix of deep and psychedelic techno. Some classic, some new, straight dancefloor mental stuff. Maybe it is the festival season, the events, the afters… but something urged us to keep it functional this time, music to keep grooving to and to lose yourself into.

A new full moon signals the arrival of a special weekend for us. We have been staying in Barcelona, in preparation for Paral·lel Festival, a truly magical event. This time, for the 37th chapter of Selene Series, we compiled a mixtape with the sounds of most artists performing at the event. Being far away from our DJ equipment did not stop us, and we still managed to weave together a collection of fantastic music that, we hope, captures the essence of what will be played at the event.

The arrival of the Harvest Moon is always a special one for us. It marks our anniversary. After 3 years of Selene Series, 38 episodes, hours of recordings... we are ready to take on year 4. Our 38th ritual had to be a special one so we are sharing with you a unique recording:

This is a live ambient improvisation that, at the time, felt restoring and meditative. Not much preparation involved: just a couple of trusty Eurorack modules and effects, a DFAM, an OP-1, and a sampler with some field recordings and vocals. We fired up the machines and jumped in, enjoying the journey and just so slightly touching the steering wheel here and there. The result is not perfect, not super polished... but it captures an intimate moment that was worth sharing for our 3rd birthday. Turn on your speakers/put on your headphones... close your eyes, and enjoy the trip.

Our next guest After 15 years as a DJ and producer, we can safely say that DOC has traveled through most styles and genres. From hard techno free parties in Barcelona in the ‘10s to disco events in London in the ‘20s, DOC has developed a broad music taste and vinyl collection during his artistic journey.

Some years ago, he landed on a musical planet inhabited by all things deep. DOC has a genre-agnostic approach to his music selection. If it is psychedelic, ritualistic, and hypnotic, it fits. He picks from ambient, techno, breaks, house, dnb, dub, and downtempo to create a trip of his own, aiming at providing both a body and mind experience.

In his monthly podcast, Selene Series, DOC explores the different shapes that mental and psychedelic electronic music can take. Selene Series is a podcast that has been running for 3 years and is released each full moon.

Selene Series 040

Some weeks ago, just before our holiday break, we made a selection of some records in a session that truly felt like a healing therapy. With no goal or objective other than enjoying the cleansing power of sound, we made a mix of ambient, jazz, videogame soundtracks, some folk music, and honestly, whatever our soul was craving. 

The result is an (almost) vinyl only mix that has become the 41st chapter in our beloved Selene Series podcast. A listening exercise with no script in our most spontaneous set up to date. Sit back, slow down, and enjoy this horizontal sonic experience.

Selene Series 041

Inspiration comes from the most unexpected places and moments, some of them tough... and in the last couple of weeks, we have been struck by it, right in time for the arrival of the Wolf Moon. For our 42nd episode of Selene Series we needed something "floaty", "bubbly", a sound that shifts gravity and makes the heavy weight of our bodies almost disappear. 

We came up with a selection of breaks, ambient and experimental music that truly feels, to us, like a bubble bath exercise, in which weight becomes nothing, in which pain fades, and in which bodies become feathers dancing to the winds of the sound.

The full moon in February was called the Snow or Storm Moon because of the bad weather and heavy snowstorms during the season. This also made hunting difficult, so this moon was also called the Hunger Moon. 

The 43rd ritual of Selene Series arrives with the Snow Moon, and this time we soundtracked the cold with a club-ready mix of sounds from the hardest corner of the spectrum of what we like. Prepare for mind-melting soundscapes, psychedelic synth lines, and relentless rhythm, in this mix of full-on mental techno.

With the arrival of spring also comes the March full moon, which is known as the Worm Moon. The name 'Worm Moon' evokes the appearance on the surface of the first worms of the season as the ground thaws as it marks the end of winter, and is associated with abundance and the heralding of bountiful and diverse harvests.
For us, the full moon of March is always a reminder that the first festival of the season has arrived, and it has become a tradition for Selene Series to pay tribute to it with a dedicated chapter. 

Mostra is a special festival, happening in our hometown, with a beautiful line-up, iconic locations, and a loving team of people behind it, on the line-up, and on the dancefloor. 

For our 44th episode of Selene Series we weave the sounds of some of the artists performing at Mostra this year, trying to paint a sonic picture of what we will listen and dance to during the next days: from ambient, noisy experimental sounds, breaks, techno... everything under the umbrella of deep and psychedelic. You know, as we like it.

Selene Series 044

April's Pink full moon arrived fresh off the total solar eclipse earlier in the month. Quite a lot going on astronomically... but for us, below has been as busy as above. After dancing our shoes off at Mostra, we came back inspired, this time by the most experimental, mental, breaky sounds. 
Undeniably dominating now the 'deep', 'hypnotic', and 'psychedelic' realm, we find half-time sounds all over the place. Via labels like Omen Wapta, Samurai Music, Mirror Zone... or artists like Vardae, Spekki, Woody amongst many others, this 'sometimes faster, sometimes half-time' sound has risen, and the popularity of the 160-180 (or half that) is as big as ever. 
For our 45th chapter of Selene Series, we pay tribute to that side of the sound. Starting slower, moving up with a shift here and there, we visit the land of breaks, dnb, and half-time psychedelia.

Selene Series 045

Continuum: a coherent whole characterized as a collection, sequence, or progression of values or elements varying by minute degrees. 

When asked about music genres, labels, or styles we enjoy… we often see the lines blurred. Sound palettes merge forming new colours, depth, and texture. Is it psychedelic techno? Is it drone ambient? Is it dub or downtempo? We see it as a continuous flowing mixture of deep, introspective, mental, and mind-bending sounds. We see it as a CONTINUUM. 

After exploring the notes of our particular continuum through our monthly podcast Selene Series, we thought it was time to invite others to pilot the spaceship through The Continuum and for us to enjoy on the passenger’s seat.

The Continuum will not be a monthly podcast, but a spontaneous celebration of the music creators that we most admire and enjoy. No scheduled uploads, and no agenda… but a free-flowing drop of sound for you to enjoy. As we join the dots to try to map out The Continuum, some of these dots are tightly close, and some of them are few and apart, and that’s fine, so will be our journey. 

The visual component of The Continuum will be delivered by the wonderful Tony Fibla. Her paintings of free-flowing, merging, and colliding colours and textures perfectly match the spirit of The Continuum (see above ;)). Her images full of nuance and intention are the ideal co-pilot for our sonic captains. 

We hope you enjoy your trip through The Continuum. 

Sasa Delimar is the first artist to place the starting dot in The Continuum podcast series. A master in intricate sound design, his productions caught our attention early on and many have found their way into our Selene Series mixes. No wonder why he has released in some heavyweights of the deep techno scene like Aleja Sanchez’s Northallsen or Polygonia’s Qeone. 

But his selections as Infinity also deserve their flowers: Monument, Crescent London, Parallel Perception or Hypnus’ The Memoir have been enchanted by his wizardry. 

It is an honour to feature the Croatian producer and dj in our new podcast series with one of his rituals and to have him slipping the first stitch as we weave the sonic cloth of our Continuum.
