Solid Steel in association with Serato (10th July) We're delighted to welcome Prefuse 73 to the show, an artist who has been a firm fixture in the track lists on Solid Steel for many years under his different guises. His EP 'Every Colour of Darkness' is released today on Temporary Residence Ltd (following an album and EP earlier this year) and his mix delves into some choice 90's hip hop. He told us;
"This Solid Steel mix is more of an 'ode' in terms of inspiration. Despite being engaged in a wide scope of music, the majority of these songs reflect what I was listening to in high school & beyond. All of these songs have maintained relevance in terms of important moments in my life. Whether it’s a reminder of where I grew up geographically or straight up youthful nostalgia.
Either way, I’ve explored many avenues as an artist but hip hop ‘is' and always be at the forefront of all my work. 
There probably isn’t a better platform than 'Solid Steel' to put together a mix of some very recognizable & not so recognizable “CLASSICS” - so to speak. 
For the record; Not all_ but many of these songs carry a language of violence among other foul things. Even though I’ve cleaned up some offensive moments, I’d highly suggest putting a NSFW sticker over this mix and not playing it for your kids."

Solid Steel (1st June) This week we welcome back Prefuse 73, who has his first solo album in three years 'Sacrifices', coming out on 15th June on Lex . Following a detour into fractured, kaleidoscopic hip-hop on recent releases, he has become increasingly interested in injecting a sense of space into his characteristically complex productions. The resultant 17-track collection is akin to watching an old photograph deteriorate in one’s hands, as otherwise dense beats dissipate into airy expanses of emotionally resonant electronics. His trailblazing early albums altered the course of underground music and influenced the paths of countless artists, though few could emulate his uncanny skill for evoking urgency via virtuosity. You can catch him playing at Low End Theory on 13th June and he told us;
"Not much to say about this mix other than this is a Pt.2 // follow up to the Prefuse 73_Solid Steel that was compiled in 2015. Around the 12 track mark, all of the raps lose the words and become instrumentals for all of those sick of words. Most of the material comes from cassette, I hope this can serve as an accompaniment to your Summer."
