@masha-ny: "For this mix, I embraced a departure from my usual meticulous planning and opted for a crossover genre approach, infusing elements of acid house and techno. I really love acid house and acid techno but with this mix I didn't necessarily want to take tracks centered around the 303, instead going for bass, electro, percussive club, and jungle tunes that have a vibe reminiscent of acid house and techno. The result is the 'Queens Acid Run Mix'. After many hours of jamming with music that I had digged through for the last few months, I reached a point where I was locked in and I found myself immersed in its direction. Once I finished it, I went on the run around Queens listening to it :)"

Q. How long have you been a part of the NY music scene?
A. Since 2016 when we threw our first little backyard party in Brooklyn and called it Kindergarten ◡̈ ❀ I feel very grateful and lucky to be surrounded by the most amazing, hardworking and cute people in the scene here :')

Juanita's Mix 097: Ma Sha

Four years ago Ma Sha launched Kindergarten Records into a world in which dancing in a club was impossible. The sounds brimmed with an intensity and intimacy that felt so far away during the Covid 19 lockdowns and the following months saw a slew of close friends in the scene join the label. Within the dearth of contact they conjured that missing feeling of togetherness with a series of mind-bending split EPs that ultimately laid the foundations for the crew that Kindergarten now represents.

With Slipstreaming, the first split EP on the label since 2021, Ma Sha teams up with Sobolik to return to Kindergarten’s origins in collaboration and pure energy. Taking cues from each other’s unfinished projects and bouncing ideas back and forth, the pair serve up the fastest EP the label has released to date. While it may be a surprise to fans of the label that these higher climes haven’t been breached before, the frantic dynamism is exactly what we’ve come to expect from Kindergarten releases.

Ma Sha delves into a journey of personal and sonic exploration, channeling an energetic turbo spirit that has infused her recent experiences and musical endeavors. The track encapsulates Ma Sha's vision of reconnecting with surrounding energy and personal growth, transforming the familiar into something entirely new. "This is what I am currently digging, playing out, and dancing to. This is the energy inside of me now," she shares, reflecting on the pulsating rhythms and dynamic layers of "Turboflow."

New York based artist Ma Sha has unveils four mind-warping, club-ready hitters in her ‘Pull to Stop’ EP, marking her Steel City Dance Discs debut.

Ma Sha’s influences for this record range from the personal to the cityscape, highlighting a deep connection with both internal focus and the constant energy of New York. Ma Sha crafts her sound by filtering through the sensory elements of public spaces. This ability to "zone in" is coupled with a commitment to recycling older musical ideas, giving them new life and perspective. It’s her emotional reconnection with New York, combined with the city's fast-paced nature that perfectly captures the essence of a life in perpetual motion. Basée à New York, Ma Sha est productrice et DJ. En 2017, elle a fondé Kindergarten, un label qui a également donné naissance à une série de soirées axées sur la musique de club énergique. Elle forme aussi la moitié du duo Sha Ru.

Ma Sha and Hodge announce their first joint EP ‘No One Moves Alone’, a four-track collaboration out November 20 on Kindergarten Records. Born from a spontaneous studio session in Montreal, the record captures the spark between two artists whose paths have long paralleled across Bristol and New York’s underground club scenes. The result is a high-energy fusion of Bristol’s percussive grit and New York’s experimental edge.

The pair first met in New York during a Kindergarten Records night at Nowadays, where Hodge played back-to-back with Darwin alongside the label’s residents. “It felt like the perfect lineup for the Kindergarten sound,” says Ma Sha. “That night had this wild, fluid energy that stuck with me.” They kept in touch, trading production ideas and studio tips, and a year later found themselves in Montreal, each performing their debut live sets at MUTEK 2025. The following day they reunited for a three-hour back-to-back at Piknic Électronik, where the chemistry was instant. The next morning they went straight into the studio, and by the end of that session, the foundation of the record was complete.

“Everything just clicked,” says Ma Sha. “We captured the energy of those few days, our first live sets and our first proper b2b. It felt like lightning in a bottle.” Hodge adds, “It came together so naturally. Ma Sha’s energy made the creativity flow instantly. We both just followed where the sound wanted to go.”
