Unstill Light (from "Sublimation", 2008)

One minute in the life of Partick Library, Glasgow. Recorded 23 November 2010 as I passed the time in the reading room while my son was at nursery.  Traffic passing on Dumbarton Road can be heard in the background.

As a contribution to the Bibliobeep and Disquiet Junto projects, I chose a segment from around 15 minutes of continuous recording that included a decent quota of beeps and voices, as well as an excellent demonstration of nose-blowing.

Otoroku is proud to present the full recording of the first meeting between Bill Orcutt (USA) and Okkyung Lee (South Korea).  Individually these players have focussed on an idiosyncratic approach to their chosen instruments and technique. Okkyung is one of the most singular voices to compromise the cello’s ‘classical’ origin, whilst Orcutt has spent many years developing a unique abstraction of traditional guitar blues.
 
Live at Cafe Oto is an uncompromising combination of these individual elements and an ecstatic improvised assault of mind and sense.

I decided to record my voice with live processing that included a drone element and that would add something to the sound of my voice in some way. The processing consists of a Moogerfooger Ring Modulator, a Koma BD-101 delay, and an Ekdahl Moisturizer reverb. The underlying drone is produced by the BD-101 feeding back at a very short delay. This drone is augmented toward the end of the track by easing the entire effects chain into a feedback loop. Everything was done like, with no post-processing other than trimming the end of the track. This was the final take, number thirteen.
