Disco segued to electro-funk ('85) and then Acid House ('88), which led to Techno ('92), which gradually encompassed a wide selection of CDs and some vinyl. Today little contemporary music reaches me and which, I guess, would be considered “electronic music”, I usually don’t find very exciting. As with all things, there is an abundance of similarity, and I rarely encounter anything that surprises me. The current state of affairs, whether in music or other fields, is very similar everywhere. The point in history where electronic music had no other template than one’s own imagination is certainly over. The very templates of the past have made the creation of new, unknown templates almost impossible. This is a structural issue of the genre that has transformed it into its current state. That being said, electronic music seems to have lost a lot of its sincerity. Via this account, nothing but high-quality, 'sincere' music is shared.

Formed in 2007, Hijacked quickly established itself as a fundamental part of York’s underground scene, with a reputation for putting on nights with a fantastic atmosphere and great music, playing host to DJs and live acts from all over the UK, at clubs, free parties and festivals across the North of England.

Originally a breaks and electro night, Hijacked is a night that refuses to be confined. An open mind to music and to DJ’ing that has seen it evolve over the years, along with its supporters, residents, collaborators, promoters and DJs, to put on some of the most memorable nights on the underground scene. 

Recent years have seen the Hijacked residents return to their spiritual home of techno, establishing the night as one of York’ only out-and-out techno nights and differentiating it from the crowd with a unique sound, energy and atmosphere. The Hijacked residents themselves bring years of experience, quality and great taste in music to the floor, united as they are by a common taste for dark, underground music and dancing, as well as a passion for playing the music they love to people on the dance floor.

Taking up residency in Mansion Underground in 2013, Hijacked will be continuing to bring their unique sound to the party with some of the best established and up-and-coming names on the UK techno scene.
