Bio:
Despite the many weird and wonderful submissions they get from Joe Public at Data Transmission – think everything from bottles of homemade hooch to used underwear – Data Transmission freely admit that we were most surprised to receive a cassette accompanied by a polaroid photo of alphabetti spaghetti spelling out ‘I AM RON MEXICO’ in the post at the tail end of last year. Intrigued, DT dusted off their Walkman and gave the tape a listen to find that what was on offer, was, well…surprisingly good!!! They then set about finding him online, only to find that there was not a single mention of him on the internet.

Several weeks passed and having written Ron Mexico off as an elaborate prank concocted by the over active imagination of one of their many friends with far too much time on their hands, Data Transmission didn’t expect to hear from him again. Then the postman delivered a bottle of tequila every day for twelve days. A postcard then followed, with the following message inscribed in Spanish “Now you’re suitably inebriated, perhaps we can talk on Facebook”. One brief chat later, Data Transmission had arranged for Ron to come with us to burgeoning snow festival, Rise, wherein we’d meet the mysterious selector in the flesh for the first time. His rider, predictably contained a variety of mescal, alongside “1 semi-inflated inflatable shark, a frozen banana and a copy of the Karate Kid on VHS”. The time in the French Alps with a masked Ron was fleeting and having ingested what we’d consider a potentially lethal amount of Mexican spirits, Ron Mexico left as much of an enigma as he’d arrived.

6 years on and Ron Mexico became the selector of all music for Data Transmission

After some gentle coaxing and assurances by Hobbs (UK) that he wouldn’t bring any “cameras or cops” ‘Ron’ instructed him to meet him at London’s St. Katharine’s Dock at 10.47 AM precisely with the promise he’d see him. And see him he did. Arriving by jetski, the still masked Mr. Mexico disembarked on to a pontoon wherein they set about creating 'Scolarisé à Domicile'.

A skateboarder first and producer second, west coast based Drew Dapps took quickly to his second outlet, and within a couple years of dropping his debut EP he was touring across the continent sharing his unique minimal grooves city to city. 

Born in Las Vegas, Drew was introduced to cooking up hip hop beats while in school, then got involved on a deeper level once he discovered house music after relocating to San Diego. 

It wasn’t long before he established a presence within the scene and started playing reputable venues, sharing the stage with legends like Chris Stussy and Dimmish. Showcasing his distinct minimalistic flavor in releases, performances, and fashion shows - the sauce has proven to resonate with DJs and fans alike. 

Growing up on artists like Pharrell Williams and Drake, Dapps has always aspired to take his imprint to the highest level with a complete lifestyle approach. Combining music and fashion in a fresh context with his Dapps Apparel clothing line has set in motion his influence in the culture.  

Steadily celebrated as a mainstay in minimal through his avant garde merch and larger than life videos, he has always sought to push the sound as far as it could go through carefully thought out creations and tight bonds with fans. Dapps is living proof that music transcends boundaries.
