Graphical sound (or drawn sound) is a sound recording created from images drawn directly onto film or paper, then played back using a sound system.

Founded by Mark Templeton in 2015, Graphical extends this principle into a label framework: publishing works where sound and image intersect. Releases take the form of books, cassettes, vinyl, and audiovisual projects, often in limited editions.

Graphical is a platform for experiments in listening and seeing - a space for works that blur the boundaries between sound and image.

Antifesto is a creative alias of Bert-Jan Zuiderduin, a Dutch composer and sound-designer who doubles as a psychotherapist in private practice and at a human rights charity in London.

Bert-Jan originally studied Art and Media Technology at the University of Utrecht before going on to study composition at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. As greatest influences he cites Conlon Nancarrow and Morton Feldman. 

Through his later psychotherapy studies and practice, Bert-Jan stumbled across Carl Jung’s theory of the Transcendent Function, which describes a dialectic transformative process very much akin to his own way of writing. In essence, this theory describes two opposing forces joining to create a third. 

Bert-Jan’s work juxtaposes often contrasting ideas or even techniques. Makes use of extremely structured as well as completely improvised or accidental material. Another characteristic is the simultaneous occurrence of repetition and continuous change as has also been explored in minimalist music.

Previously, Bert-Jan worked more conceptually, for example his work ‘Beauty Sleepers’ existing of field recording made in Teylers Museum, Haarlem, where the composer attempted to bring back to life the ‘sleeping’ scientific instruments from bygone ages. There was even an electronic homage to Frank Zappa (‘20.000.000 False Moustaches Can’t be Wrong’).

Mark Templeton transforms archival and found media into immersive audiovisual collages. He constructs compositions from found sounds, reel-to-reel tape loops, sampled cassettes, his 35mm photographs and appropriated video, layering these elements with digital sound and image techniques. His photobooks, exhibitions, and live performances explore memory, fantasy, and sensory perception. Much of his work is released through Graphical, the audiovisual label he founded to publish his own musical and image based experiments in 2015.

Since 2007, Templeton has released work both solo and collaboratively, including "Two Verses" (2024, Faitiche) and "Inner Light" (2024, Enmossed). His 2024 exhibition "A GUIDE TO INNER LIGHT", presented at Solas Gallery in Seattle, assembled found slides, sound, and installation, later extending into a book and cassette. His performances and installations have appeared at galleries, festivals, and alternative spaces across North America, Europe, the United Kingdom, and China.

例えば精米機から出た米ぬかは油分が多く鳥の餌になる。食用にならないゴミが付いた廃棄米とか、ホームセンターで買ってきた鳥の餌、あと自作のバードケーキ。砂糖に、小麦粉と、油で作ったハイカロリーな塊をぐるぐる混ぜて作る。油は天ぷら作った後で捨てるやつを使えばいい。
